Question Winter Tires (needed)

Considering I drove my Pirelli P210's down to the cord last season, I think I'll be needing a fresh set of winter tires soon (we've already had a few inches of snow a week ago).

I stopped into one of our (new) local Discount Tire stores and was pleasantly surprised to discover that they can order Bridgestone tires (despite it not being a 'regular' brand for them).

I'm going to likely go with a 215-55-16 (for a slightly smaller footprint). I'm considering the Bridgestone Blizzak MZ-01 vs. their WS-50. Do any of you have any direct experience with either (or both?!) tire series? Any other suggestions?

I'd appreciate whatever feedback I could get.

Best regards (after a long absence),

-Mark Tente

Just keep in mind that with 215/55/16 tires you will be going slightly faster than if you were using 225/50/16. The closest match is 205/55/16 which should probably be a lot easier to find as they are used on Cavalier's, Impreza's, New Beetle's, etc...

Big Ditto there! I've used them the last 2 winters, and the tread still looks like new. They go and stop like mad too! They are available in the stock SVX size.

Steve,

Lets hear it for the ground walnut shells. I wonder if you can get a free bag of walnuts at the supermarket for each tire purchased.

Whoops, you're right. I researched this a while ago and forgot that you have to go 'down' two sizes to match the heights. Thanks for reminding me. (Maybe slightly cheaper, too.)

don't forget that the svx has a mag that is 1 inch larger than the cavaliers. the svx mag will be larger than the thread width of the 205-55r16 causing the firewall to touch ground in corners.this could cause lost of traction.
