OT: Info needed on XT6
Hey, part failure after part failure has left me with very little choice but to possibly get rid of the SVX, haven't made a final decision on this yet, but it seems inevitable. Transmission is starting to show signs of failure, and being that it is probobly a Legacy transmission, I don't think they will accpet it as a core(please tell me if I am wrong on this). Pretty much the only thing keeping me from getting rid of it is the fact that I will probobly still owe money on it after I get rid of it. So anyway, getting to the main point, what is everyones opinion on the XT6, are there many mods for it, is it reliable, would it be a good choice? If not the XT6 I definitely want to get another Subaru, AWD only. Preferrably easily modable, and priced below 3k, Any suggestions?

I love mine because of all the quirkeness about it. It is wierd! It's rarer than the SVX far as I know. It's very aerodynamic and can be fast. You'll have to test drive one (if you can find one). I know I sound like a pessimist because I am. It would seem like a backwards step though, especially from a performance standpoint (SVX = 230hp, XT6 = 145hp). The odd thing is, the SVX I recently drove didn't feel a whole lot more powerful than the XT6 but that's due to the SVX's weight and gearing. They are about equal on the low end while the SVX flies on the top end. If I sound like I'm trying to sway you away from the XT6, I am. You have to KNOW that you want this car to own it. Those that have it, wanted it and we are happy (mostly). I'm currently beating my self trying to make mine faster. I know what I have to do but things are on hold for the moment. Check these articles out to get yourself familiar with this car. Articles Try looking for an AWD turbocharged Legacy from the early 90's. They can be modded and be fairly fast. Pretty reliable as well as far as I know.

Having owned 2 XT6s and now an SVX here is my take...
SVX is a different car, different style. Both my XT6s were relatively reliable, never left me dead and I push them hard. At a moments notice I could drive to Michigan and back on a weekend. The Air suspension is a PITA, but for ~$500-$600 you can replace the whole thing. Parts are pretty cheap to repair it compared to SVX parts. It's much much more tossable than the SVX will ever be, I could 4-wheel drift it at will whereas on the SVX it's not that easy or proper to do. Refinment is not near the SVX levels especially because most XT6s are pretty beat now. If you can pick one up for around $1000-$1500 it's worth it. I won many an auto-x with my XT6s and they are very interesting and different cars. Zero mods out there for them so if that's a concern stay away. If I were in your shoes I'd pick up a 2.2l Impreza L and build that up. -mike |

I love my SVX, and I love my XT6, but they are completely different cars.
You could do a little reading on them at http://xt.zybx.com/ He has quite a bit of info on them there, has some write-ups on a Supercharged one being built, and on a couple turboed ones. You can mod anything, but I don't know of any direct bolt on mods available for the XT6(kind of like the SVX), but if you're willing to throw the money at it, it could be a real beast. I converted the air suspension to regular struts for $75 for used parts and some of my time, so thats no big deal. Try to find one to drive, they're a blast around town, much more nible than the SVX, but you'll miss the SVX on your next highway trip. Just a couple of my thoughts,

i know im going to be biched at for this one but.. i would sugest maybe buying a 1g eclipse/laser/talon for your AWD turbo needs "yes yes im always talking abought dsm here" but in all honesty u can pick on up for under 3,000 make shure u get a 92-94 that has the 6 bolt blocks with the 4 bolt rear ends. i know u are a subaru fan and svx fan but u cant beat the value of a AWD turbo. they are verry dosile also and after market is endless and power is also.. just though i through that in consideration

No flames here. The DSMs are great. They are pricey here in the NE where I am though. The cheap ones are beat by kids

I agree with solar. I would personally get a AWD DSM if you're looking for a cheap, reliable AWD car with lots of aftermarket. That car is the queen of aftermarket.

It's a solid car, the paint is faded out, but it’s mechanically solid. They are easily mod’ed, add an intercooler and up the boost to get about 200 HP, and they weigh in at about 2500. It has the digital dash, push button 4WD, the air susp. Has already been converted to standard struts. You could drive it like it is, or paint it to make it sharp. If you’re interested PM me and I’ll get you her phone number.

Legacy tranny
If they don't you might want to check out www.car-parts.com and see if you can get a bad one real cheap!

In short, I'm sure they will take the Legacy tranny in for the core.

I have managed to find myself a SVX with warranty on the tranny for under 3000. Perhaps you might want to go that way. SVXes are pretty cheap if you can find a deal.
