Question greenmarine - wild wings

Hey greenmarine - is this story true?

>

> >
> > This came in from Erik Smith in Hilton Head- I find it to be
>credible,

>I have been holding out on sending out this e-mail until I had all the
>facts verified. I now know this story to be 100% true. Wild Wings is a
>restaurant in Hilton Head. They have restaurants in Charleston SC,
>Mt.
>Pleasant SC, Marietta GA, Athens GA, Charlottesville VA, and
>Greenville
>SC as well. Also, they are preparing to go national. Last weekend
>(the
>weekend of March 22, 2003), five Marines from the Beaufort air station
>went to Wild Wings as numerous Marines frequently do on the weekends.
>This time, they were asked to leave. They were not drunk. One of them
>does not drink at all, and the others had not started drinking yet.
>When
>asked why they had to leave, the response was "We do not support the
>war, and your presence here is a disruption."
>
>I heard this last week, and have been bighting my tongue until I could
>verify this. I have not only verified this 100% with one of the
>Marines
>I have known for a couple of years, but the story has grown. Word of
>mouth spread the story quickly on this island as well as the local
>military bases. One of the civilian employees of the Beaufort Air
>Station actually called the local radio station and the DJ broadcast
>the story. Needless to say, business was off at Wild Wings last week.
>
>What might the owners response have been? Would they apologize? NO! In
>fact, they did the opposite. They called the CO of he Beaufort Air
>Station demanding an apology from the Marines for causing their
>business
>to drop by spreading this story! The CO decided that Wild Wings did
>not
>deserve an apology. Nor did it deserve any more Marine dollars. Wild
>Wings is now off limits to the Marines of Beaufort Air Station.
>
>I have always been very wary of spreading stories I heard on the
>internet. However, I know this one to be true. I heard it from the
>source.
>
>There are people out there who do not support this war. I am well
>aware
>of that. However, if you do not support the members of our military,
>you
>do not deserve the freedoms they fight to protect. You do not deserve
>to
>run a business in this country. You do not deserve to profit in this
>country. And, since without our military you would not have freedom
>of
>speech, you do not deserve to express an opinion in this country.
>
>I hope that each of you will consider this story before you spend one
>dime in a Wild Wings establishment.

RE: hoax

yeah, it sounds like a hoax. i doubt they would be that bad and ask the marines to leave. they can get sued big time and shut down for discriminating against people. i did some work for wafflehouse and something like that did happen. apparently one of the wafflehouses in the boondocks had a incident where they would not serve some african americans and may have called them names there were offensive. unfortunately for them, the ones they did it to were some music artists (small time) and they decided to blow it up. there were sued and i guess a class action was filed against wafflehouse. they had to pay a hefty settlement to nonprofit organizations to get that out of court and fired the management of that particular area to clear their name.

Yea, I heard about this story... It turns out that something like that did happen but it was in a little diffrent way.... I like Wild Wings, but as with everything around a military base ya just want to get away from it all sometime. There are no really good girls here, if there are then they have already been screwed over by countless Marines..... I'm not really into that... I'd much rather go back to Greensboro, NC where there are no Military bases and I can walk into a bar and get drinks just thrown at me because I am in the military!!!! That's what I like, instead of getting ****ty civilians that don't treat ya with respect at all like here in Beaufort and Savannah... Even though I am glad that I am a Marine now, I can't wait to get out and get on with my life.....

I heard about this one from the manager of the local Wild Wing Cafe here in Greenville. Apparently a group of Marines got rowdy at one of the late night dance party things they do down there, got really drunk and started accosting people and were asked to leave. They were in civilian clothes, nothing to identify them as military.

After being asked to leave one of the guys started talking trash about how they were fighting to protect the country and they could have fun if they wanted to, and the manager told them that he didn't care what they were fighting for, they just couldn't get drunk and start a ruckus in his bar.... so they started yelling about how he was anti-American and the bouncers threw them out.

How it turned into this idiotic right-wing propaganda hug session I don't know...

The whole idea of Wild Wing Cafe being an anti-war protest shop is retarded. The one in Greenville has had an American flag flying outside since day 1 of hostilities, and the manager of the one here is ex-Navy.
