EG33 Head Dissection

Thanks to the generosity of Crazy_pilot here on the boards, I had an extra EG33 head that I was able to steal some parts (lifter liners as they're not available on their own from Subaru) I need for my engine rebuild.

Since the head itself was not useable, I figured I'd make it useful and cut it up. Slicing it at various locations, it gives a decent idea of port shape, wall thickness and proximity to water jackets. This should come in handy for future head porting.

If anyone wants different/close-up photos or a section cut in a different/thinner to see a specific area, let me know and when I have a chance I'll try to make it happen.

Each section has a photo of its left and right face. LH face (towards front of head) photos are always the first of the pair.

cheers
-Evan

Re: EG33 Head Dissection

Well I'm glad to see that block of metal being used for something good and seriously interesting. Were you able to get the sleeves you needed from it?

It's interesting to see how much of the valve guide would be removed if you aggressively ported the top of the intake runner and smoothed it down.

Re: EG33 Head Dissection

I did! I left one cylinder intact, in case I need any more sleeves in the future or if I want to look at a specific cross-section.

I was surprised at how much material there is in some places! Definitely makes me want to find another engine to play with.

Thanks again, that head made things so much easier with my rebuild!

cheers
