British Formula 1 GranPrix at Silverstone...

Alright peeps!!! Who's watching it??? I've watched every F-1 GranPrix since late March, I'm sure as hell not gonna miss it!!!

The All Formula One Thread
Also what teams are ya pulling for??

I think that I'm gonna have to stay with my origional favorite, McLaren Mercedies. I've been pulling for them ever since 1998... However it is absolutly astonishing to see Schumacker and the Red Ferrari blast everyone else away...

Thoughts and opinions on the Hondas blowing up thier engines... Also Renault and thier excellent launch control systems and torquey motors...

Anyone heard anything on Ralf's condition?? I noticed that he didn't drive in the French GP...

Dood, I could talk all day about this. Really, I could. For starters:

1. I'm a Ferrari fan at heart, but I just love the sport, and I'll be thrilled to see anybody win. Anybody who is 'bored' with watching Schumacher win dpesn't realize that we're witnessing something we're unlikely to see ever again. This guy is legendary, and drove an absolutely awesome race in France.

2. Nobody but Honda know why their engines blow. Although I'm inclined to question even that - if they knew why the engines weren't lasting the race, then surely they'd do someting about it. Without the engine failures, BAR would easily have second place in the constructor's championship.

3. It looks like Ralf will never drive a Williams car again. He'll require the rest of the season to recover and Toyota just announced a three-year deal with him starting in 2005.

well no, not exactly just the two of you.

I believe I've missed watching only one race since Schumacher spent the rest of the year on the sideline with an injury to his leg (what was that 1999?).

My team has to be Ferrari. I started sketching the road cars when I was about 12 and that continued as my classroom favorite pastime all through high school. If I ever win the lotto, I'd advise all not to be between me & the dealership doors.

I'm also a big Formula 1 fan (check my profile). I've been a perennial Ferrari fan over the last 5 years, but recently I've also been following the exploits of talented young drivers like Kimi Raikonnen and Ferdinand Alonso.

I'm also a huge fan of Ralf. Glad to hear he's coming back next season in a Toyota!

Good I'm glad that Pockets and I aren't the only F-1 lovers here... So who's waking up at 7:30am on sunday to watch it live??? If ya catch the rerun at 9:00pm then ya aren't a true F-1 fan

Ya should have seen the last time that I had my "girlfriend" down here with me... Bright and early at 7:30am my alarm goes off on Saturday... I spring outta bed, get dressed, grab a beer and plant myself infront of the TV to watch Qualifying... She's slowly waking up to the announcers voice then when the first car goes out on track I BLAST THE VOLUME!!! "WTF!!!" she screams... "Sorry, I can't hear ya sweetie"

Then again the same thing happens on Sunday... Again I get outta bed (with her still in bed sound asleep)... This time I purposly turn the volume down throught the pre-race show... Then right as the lights are getting ready to go out... Up goes the VOLUME AGAIN... Her reaction was the same But I didn't care, it was a F-1 start... There's almost nothing else more hypnotizing to watch...

Next time she comes down I think there'll be a GP on... I never tell her till she's down here though or she probably wouldn't come.

Green,

assuming you guys stick together she'll eventually come to see the light...

My wife has watched almost every race for the last 2 years (and not the evening replay). A couple she couldn't see race day she videotaped.

She has been considering buying a cap signed by Michael Schumaker, but can't decide between that and a big Scuderia Ferrari race flag.

F1

Hi F1 freaks, I've been watching F1 since the early '90s. I used to watch on CBC from Windser, Ca. But in 1997 the Canadian gov which owns the CBC decided to not spend the money, and they quite broadcasting the races. They even broadcast the first race of the sason by mistake. Losing the race sent me to Dish network which had just started in the satellite/small dish business. I've been watching on Dish since 1997. I'm taken with the Renault cars and drivers. Also BAR interests me. But, I'm never disappointed when Mikey wins. Take care BOBB

Lee, if she can only get one item, I'd go for the autographed cap!

I'm not really sure when I first started following F1, but it was back when about the only race you could see on TV was Monaco on "Wide World of Sports". Maybe it was when Clark, Hill, and Stewart came over to race at Indy. F1 wasn't covered by any of our local papers and I would have to wait for Road and Track issues to arrive to find out about what happened. My older and very race-savy sister who lives in Indianapolis (she told me to watch Jeff Gordon when he started in the Bush series!) would send me clippings of anything covered in the Indy papers. When I was stationed in England in the mid to late '70's I saw 3 British Grand Prix races....two at Silverstone and one at Brands Hatch. My favorite driver was Niki Lauda, who battled back from such terrible injuries from a crash at the old Nurburgring(sp).

Ya know, I've always wondered how compairatively fast the Indy cars are vs. the Formula 1 cars... I know they are both extremly fast... But the F-1 car would probably take the flag in the end ....

IRL and F1 cars are now made for completely different things. An IRL car would not be able to keep up on a road course, but an F1 car wouldn't last the distance on an oval.

And it's not a matter of better or worse - they're just constrained to different regulations.

Although I know which I'd prefer to watch.

There's something about the wideness of an Indy car and how the front wheels are slightly smaller than the rear ones... I always liked the way that they look... F-1 cars though have the same size wheels on front and rear... Why is that?? Ya would think that they would have smaller wheels in the front to give sharper steering response...
