Wanted 1994 SVX Radiator

Is there anyone out there, know of a good, new, replacement radiator at a good price?... $500.00 is ridiculous.

You can buy a Silla on E-bay for about $170.00 delivered, but you are getting plastic tanks and only a one row core.

As for as the $500.00 (+) radiators,
they have a much greater coolant capicity,
they cool much better,
and have a much more efficient transmission cooler.

I was recently road testing an SVX with a bad head gasket and made a series of runs up a mountain (8° incline, 2810 elevation, ambient temps were about 82°f, at the bottom of the mountain, and about 74°f at the top.)
With a Chinese (I believe a Silla) radiator, the engine peaked at 239°f by the top of the mountain, with the transmission temp at 199°f.
The following run with a PWR radiator netted 199°f engine temp, with a 174°f transmission temp.
The PWR is not for everyone, but they will not crack two years later, and will do a much better job of protecting your engine and transmission.

That much of a difference? Well then, I view my expensive radiator as cheap insurance.

Re: Wanted 1994 SVX Radiator

Just a note to anyone reading this;
When your temp needle is reading flat and level on the dash gauge, your engine is 199°f-230°f.
At 232°f the needle starts to creep up/point a little upward.
At 239°f the needle now points above the picture of the thermometer.
And by 243°f the needle is above the picture, but still below the red.

I agree.

A couple of years ago when Chris got the PRWs made for at the time $450..0 group buy I went ahead and made my own radiator set up because $450.00 was too much for me.
Back then big @$$ radiator, $200.00 without trans cooler, (plus shipping)
(Too thick to use stock fans)
Two slim electric fans, $110.00, plus tax
Thermostatically controlled fan switch, about $60.00 plus tax
Aluminum to make my own radiator brackets, $10.00. (two hours)
Transmission cooler because the new rad had none, $48.88 (plus tax)
Budget radiator swap, about $454.62

And the PWR has more, thinner, tubes, that promote more heat to be transfered, more quickly than my racing style set up.

Tom,

Thank you for these numbers. Have always wondered what the needle position might be in terms of temp. My operating temp is (here in the desert) always below horizontal, so i guess I'm running around 185-190. I have been using Royal Purple Ice since 2001 and 50/50 water/anti freeze. When I put the front end back together I'm going 20% anti freeze/80% water with 8 oz Purple Ice. The water wetter is most effective in lowering the coolant temp if it 100% water, we with aluminum blocks need at least 10% anti freeze to provide a film on the aluminum to reduce the ill effects of electrolysis and cavitation and the anti freeze becoming acidic.

The coldest it's been here in the desert in 6 years is 30*, 20% anti freeze protects to 14*. I'm looken forward to cooler engine temps

If you are interested in using water wetter, Redline has a better price per oz than Royal Purple.

Re: Wanted 1994 SVX Radiator

I paid around $280 shipped for my stock radiator from Liberty Subaru in NJ. I couldn't hack looking at the non-finished look of the PWR under my hood.
