landshark.......

i went the spray can route at first and it lasted about three months. the brake dust will simply destroy the paint in no time. when the paint fades in color, bubbles, and then cracks your calipers will look like doo doo.

neat thought but???

I checked out the pics and also the prices that were quoted for doing the job...

Call me crazy but thats an expensive pretty face and those are really mediocre calipers to invest so much money in. The 2 piston fronts are so small and only push against the rotor from one side and the single piston rears are really really small.

No wonder these cars don't stop well...

If it were me and I had to have colored calipers, I would clean them myself and use the Duplicolor spray kit for calipers or the epoxy brush on kit (either are well under $40.00). The brush on is not as smooth but either looks good. I would then put what I saved into the Kitty to buy a set of Brembos: a lot more bang for the buck than powdercoating

Thats just me tho'

Hotshoe

As an aside, I bought a pair of Indy car calipers for my Misu for $125. and a pair of new slotted 13" rotors (no centers) for $50.00: both on eBay...it can be done for less

I used to think that the brakes were lousy on the SVX. When I first got the car, I had to practically stand on the brake pedal to get the thing to stop. Then I had all the rotors turned and installed Axxis Deluxe Plus (organic) brake pads. It stops beautifully now. My current theory is that the OEM brake pads just plain old suck. I do worry about the rotors overheating, but after a month or so of spirited driving, no problems with warping. The front rotors do have a bit of heat tinting though. :-)

Because brakes are so important (they stop the car) I decided to do the caliper powdercoat thing. Number one, they won't rust anymore, and they are rebuilt. When I got them off of the car, I found that mine were shot, and needed to be rebuilt anyway, so I got both things done at the same time. I also added the ss braided lines, and rotors at the same time. This should help also.

Doug does a very nice job of powder coating, and they are packaged for shipping so they won't be damaged. I am a very satisfied customer. Oh, and I am sure he will include a portion of dog drool is you ask nicely.

I agree. If you have the money, upgrade the brakes. I'm only giving people the best looking stock brakes they can get. It is a lot of money, but it is almost all labor. I spend about one hour per caliper just cleaning all the years of grease off of them and getting them ready. If you paint them, you'll still be spending close to twelve hours disassembling them, cleaning them, painting them, installing new parts and reassembling. Add in the $50 for the rebuild kits and your right in the same ballpark.

Well, If we stay up all night, we should be able to do it over a weekend Those things take a long time to cool down after being baked and they get baked twice.

Seriously, I work on an exchange basis, so we can have the new ones ready to install when you get here, then you can use my tools to install them here and leave your cores. Should take you about two to five hours depending on your mechanical ability. If you need me to help, that will cost you extra

Hi, has anyone here found any aftermarket performance brake calipers that don't cost a small fortune? Or, is the small fortune really worth it.???? Any recomendations or feedback?...... I do have to admit, the yellow powder coated calipers look nice...

Graveyard???

They are all up and running. That is my computer farm. The one on the left is my Citrix Server. The one next to that is my firewall/VPN server. The next one over is the active directory/exchange server. The one after that is the Home Automation server that controls the HVAC, lighting, and entertainment systems throughout the house. The one next to that is my WinXP test box and the one on the right end is my win 2000 test box. Not pictured are my two Thinkpad laptops, my Mac and my wife's workstation.

You pick a color, I send you a rebuilt, powdercoated set COD for $300 plus shipping (~$340 total). You install them and return your caliper cores back to me in the same packing material. Then I inspect to make sure you sent everything back, then I send you a core refund of $100 via check or paypal. Total cost to you is about $260 with total shipping charges.

You are always welcome to pay me prior to shipping them out. It will save you the $6.00 COD fee that UPS charges.
