A Mid 90's Legacy/Impreza one can be used...same sensor, just slightly different mounting tab...and they can be had cheap on roakauto.com

Re: 1992 SVX Crank Position Sensor

I need a crank position sensor for my 92 SVX, but I don't know which one is the bad one, just got a faulty crank sensor code. How do I know which one I need and can I just replace both with the same one from a Legacy?

Thanks!

Try a new one on one of them, if that doesn't work, put the old one back, and try the new one in the other one.

Re: 1992 SVX Crank Position Sensor

For the cost, I would go ahead and change both. I went through this late last fall. Somehow both sensors failed. I tried changing one and then tried the other. It wouldn't start until I had replaced both with new ones. I would have saved myself a lot of time and assembly/disassembly if I had done both at once.
I think they are easily damaged when removing them. especially if they are stuck. I sold a known working one to a member a few years ago only to have him send it back because it didn't work.

The code No. 11 is crank sensor No.1.
Code 29 is No. 2.
Code 13. is the cam sensor.

No.1 sensor is on the left hand side. No. 2 is to the right, under the alternator, looking from the front.
Cam sensor, is on right side of engine near the battery.

You can replace them with legacy sensors, the No.1 is different, but you can fit the Legacy one turned slightly, with the bolt down beside the bracket.
