Question...do we really need dust shields on our brake assembly?

Nope. Mine rusted away, haven't had a problem since they fell off. I've got a picture around here somewhere...

I don't think the FHI engineers and bean counters would install them if they didn't serve a purpose, or minimize liability. I have heard it helps keep water and dirt off of the discs and calipers. A few of us still have them is good painted condition. Sometimes it pays being a redneck.
