I can't wait to get these running. 118 dB ought to be plenty to get people's attention.
I'm ordering them. You said that its too tight behind the grille. Was it an impossible fit or just really tight? Is possible to shave some plastic off the back grille?

Is possible to shave some plastic off the back grille? No. The diaphragm ans mounting bolt are part of the back.
Look again in my locker HERE. The horns are too large to be mounted together; they must be separated.

The original horns and bracket have to be removed. Here is the driver's side horn, mounted on an "L" shaped aluminum bracket, mounted into the stock horn bracket mounting hole:

And again the passenger side mounting location:

And an attachment of the engine bay, showing driver's horn and approximate location of passenger horn

Re: Hella Supertones!

^^What he said.

There's maybe (and I'm being very generous here) a half inch behind the grille. Not gonna work. I ended up placing mine in the same spot. The only other place I would consider relocating them to is inside the fender wells, to keep the engine bay a little less cluttered.

There is no way to significantly unclutter an SVX engine compartment so that you would notice the difference.

However, I might consider relocating the horns into each wheel well. I am not sure if the sound level would be affected because of the ditectional nature of the diagram.

Maybe down inside the belly pan would be an option...

Make it look a little neater then. I know yours are painted, but mine are still red, so they do stick out and are noticably something that isn't really supposed to be there. Although the effect of people looking under the hood for the first time is always fun, between the red Supertones, Optima Red Top battery, PWR rad, and the big old aluminum manifold, people aren't really sure where to look.

Bump!

Supertones do fit behind the '97 grill...

I don't have a great picture, but you can see the red peeking through:

Re: Hella Supertones!

Well there ya go. Say something's impossible and you're just asking someone else to prove you wrong. Another reason to get a 97 grille for my car

I haven't decided if I want to cover it up yet. I might end up redoing some connections later.

Personally I'm not too impressed. Pitch is too high.

Re: Hella Supertones!

You can always unplug the high pitched one. I do find the tone a little rough. Loud and attention grabbing, but not pleasant.

Yeah but it loses a great deal of effectiveness with only one honker.
