Dark nights + Deer = new headlights
Well I just realized how bad my lights are, (don't notice it much in the city) highbeams dont help.
I moved out in the middle of no where, I work shift work, I see deer every night and there are no street lights ofcourse. I'm going to have to get the new 9005 conversion I've read about on here. Just buy 9005 bulbs, do a few cuts and thats it right? I see so many threads with different bulbs recommended, I just wanted to get some consolidated feedback if you would help me list which bulb what price how long they last for you how bright! Thanks for all the wealth of information on here! |

I'm using 80W 9006's by Worldlight (wholesale) for $5. They don't last as long as I'd like but they're cheap enough to replace. They're bright but that's not the problem I have. The lenses are dull beyond repair. (The plastic is baked)
Yours might be ok if you take some fine scratch remover and rub that into the lenses with your fingers. Buff off with a towel and you're done. Before I did this my lenses were so bad you couldn't even tell I had projectors. If you can't find any scratch remover just come up to Winnipeg and use mine. Bah, I'll even clean your lenses myself

I should know my wife is from around Brandon, Thats how this Texan who lived in Hawaii for 3+ years got to NE North Dakota. Thanks for the advise, I'll try that. BTW are clear lenses worth it? The $, the trouble, the chance of them leaking? Do they affect the light dispersion good or bad? |

I have no experience with clear lenses but I'm seriously considering it in the near future.

If upgrading bulbs to ones like Toshiba HIRs, Silverstars, cool blues, or even the 80w bulbs your talking about do any changes need to be made to the wiring to avoid them being burnt up (the wires)?

I never had the wires burn up...only the sockets. Lately I've been using conductive paste in the sockets when I change the bulbs and haven't had to replace a socket since.

You should make sure your lights are properly aimed. That makes much more of a difference than anything else. Our lights are most excellent.

Look out deer!
The deer better look out, my HIR 9011 headlights are on their way.
I hope I can freeze them in their tracks before they get in the middle of the road. |

To clean your headlight lenses, first take some 600drit sand paper and sand the hell outta them... Then take some 1200 ish grit and keep sanding.... Then take some toothpaste and rub it in with a towel (doesn't have to be Tarter control or whitening )... Wait till it drys then take a clean towel and buff the hell outta it!!! After that is done, you can take a buffer and some buffing compound and again, buff the hell outta them... After you are done.... Your headlights will look brand new

i just used 1000 grit for my SVX and then sprayed it with clearcoat
for the legacy i used 800 then 1000 but it didn't seem to be all that much different, i think more effort went into doing the SVX from just 1000 remember to use wet sand paper and keep the place wet, don't worry about the scratches that appear cause after you clearcoat/buff it, it should look clear and new |

I have a question about this headlight altering procedure and the bulbs.
According to my information, the highbeams are 9005 bulbs and the low beams are 9006 bulbs. However, people are changing their lowbeams from 9006 to 9005 bulbs which must be brighter. Can we get away with using a bulb that is normally a high beam in a low beam environment?

another good product
requires no sanding or clearcoating or toothpaste.
it is made by mopar parts and is sold at nearly all jeep dealerships. It is called Jeep soft glass cleaner( for use on all plastic windows) *clean the lenses with a mild soap *Just rub product on evenly applying light pressure(buffing motion works) tada.... clearer lenses in under 5 minutes

But if I do like them I was thinking of getting the 1800 lumen low beams, HIR 9012's, is that going too far? |
