Re: Which Timing belt kit?

I've bought from the first guys before, theimportexperts
and have been happy with their products, delivery, and price.

That would make it $171.95 more for the water pump.
Rebuilt ones are only $50.00.

A NEW water pump directly from Subaru only lists for $150.00

Re: Which Timing belt kit?

a used water pump for your svx is a no-no. A lot of trouble to put it on and it could do a lot of damage if it fails. I say, give yourself a chance...

Fatherly advice... Get one from Subaru if the difference in the kit price with and without is that much. It wasn't when I got mine but looks like the greed factor may be factored in nowadays.

Re: Which Timing belt kit?

I've seen much advice here about avoiding remanufactured water pumps (one of which has been in my teal for many thousands of miles). Does anyone know for a fact that a water pump bought from Subaru isn't just a Subaru-branded reman?

Better still, has anyone had any trouble with a new genuine Subaru water pump?

Re: Which Timing belt kit?

I don't know of a manufacturer that remans water pumps, that wouldn't be cost effective. Stay away from your local auto parts store if you need anything other than oil, batteries, wipers or light bulbs, especially on a car like the SVX.

Re: Which Timing belt kit?

the pulleys are the same in both kits (It seems all aftermarket pulleys are the same..the pulleys I get from gates are the same as in these kits). The timing belt in the pci kit(the first link) is a quality belt. I don't recognize the belt in the 2nd kit. It doesn't look like one of the major's I'm familiar with.
