Exact theory on how all of this happened would have to be told by Tom.

Thank you Tom for coming out!

You are welcome, sir!
This one was interesting.

When I got there the SVX did indeed NOT throw any codes!
And we were checking it out with the Subaru Select Monitor!?!?
It showed a 32 degree retard, 5.1 volts on the left O2 sensor, 10 degrees advance, (which is normal for a SVX that is not yet started) BUT NO CODES!
After trying to start it several times, and clearing the (non existant) codes each time, a bad #1 crank sensor showed up.

So we changed the two wire temp sensor.
They sometimes can cause false codes to show up.
It still did not start.
So we changed the #1 crank sensor.
It still did not start.......
So we changed the #2 crank sensor.
And it still spun over, quickly and smoothly, as it had been doing, but still did not start....
The voltage in the drivers side O2 sensor was bothering me.
O2 sensors are always under 1 volt.
The lower the voltage, the leaner the mixture, the higher # the richer the mix.
I disconnected the left O2 sensor to see if it was a REAL reading, or a short in the wireing..
The left O2 now showed 0.30
AND IT STARTED RIGHT UP!
We reconnected the O2, it read in the normal range, we double checked the resistances on the sensors we changed.

The #1 crank did show as open, so THAT is what caused the engine to stop sparking.

Once that was fixed, I believe the unburned gasoline in the exhaust system, as read by the left O2 sensor, told the ECU to lean the mixture, which QUIT ALLOWING GASOLINE through the fuel injectors!
So with no gas through the injectors, the car would not fire.
I believe the 32 degree retard was caused by the bad crank sensor, putting the engine into the "limp home mode".
And even though we used the SSM several times THAT did not go away until the engine actually started, and was reved.

However, what is surprising... i think to all of us... is the fact that there are no error codes being thrown.
Maybe the engine has to be running to pick up that particular code?

Just a thought,
Keith
