SVX check-over

I have very recently bought a 93 SVX with a 3 month warranty from my local Subaru dealer. As I live in Guernsey, Channel Islands, he is the only dealer, with an unknown amount of SVX experience but probably very little. During the remaining warranty period I would like to have it checked out by someone who knows what they are doing, I will therefore be travelling to England in the next few weeks.

If anyone could recommend a suitable place to contact, I would greatly appreciate it

Thanks

I have had similar problems here in Ireland, nobody knows what they are let alone how to fix them.

Suggest you contact richdev65, he is on this board, click into members, send him a message. As the name implies he is based in Devon. Another really good contact is Roger Kessels, who unfortunately recently sold his car. He has a car dealership[not Subaru], and will not send you astray for technical help in that neck of the woods. You may fing Roger on UK Yahoo, but rich will probably be able to help.

93 SVX

Andy, you do not say how many miles your car has done. The early cars, and yours is one, give tranny or gearbox trouble. This is fixable, but expensive to do. Make sure if your box is on the way out that you let the dealer fix it before the three months are up.

You might be lucky, and have no trouble, but the regular fix for cars of that age is to have an additional oil cooler fitted, and run with fully synthetic high temperature ATF.

Congratulations on the purchase, these are lovely cars and highly reliable except for the gearbox and the odd rear bearing.

Joe

Have emailed richdev65 but had no reply. Thanks for the advice though.

Has only done 30k but mostly on short journeys at low speed. Unlikely to have mods on tranny as no reported faults on any of the 3 local cars. will have to look into it later.

Still looking for someone to check the car over

Will see if I can contact Roger Kessells for you. He should be able to sort you out.

I've heard mention of a dealer named Bell and Covill (may be off on the spelling) that, I believe, is located in London. One of our US memebers, who was going to relocte to London had visited them to see what it would take to have his car fitted for European spec (repeaters, rear fogs, etc.) You might give them a call. I also came across a site for Ace Kensington Subaru in London. http://www.acekensington.co.uk/ , another possible avenue. Good luck.

Okay, a little more research turned up Bell and Colvill in Surrey. Meanwhile, here's a wealth of dealerships. Just choose your location. You might check with Roger, however, as to the reputation of the various dealers in the area(s) you'll be visiting. Here's the listing:

Thanks for that. I have a list of dealers from Subaru, but only a few have had svx training, and only a few of those have had enough experience.

I usually find that you can't beat a referal from a happy customer though.

Roger sounds interesting. I hope I can make contact before my visit.

Subaru main dealer UK

Andy, If you come ashore at Southampton you are a short drive from http://www.sparshattsofbotley.co.uk/

They have just serviced my SVX and they where 30% cheaper for the same service than Bell & Colville (who I bought my car from)

I will go back again.

Thanks for the help.

To explain my position to the owners on the wrong side of the pond...............

I live in Guernsey, a small island (9X3) and due to monopolies, everything here is twice the price for half as much. The boat trip to England (2Hrs) costs over £500 so I have to get my moneys worth and combine a holiday with business etc.

Unfortunately my trip coincides with the school half-term and The Queens Golden Jubilee so I am having trouble getting accomodation. It seems that the dealer used may end up being decided by which shop doorway I sleep in.

Nothing is cheap with an SVX Andy. I sympathise.

Just as well they are pretty reliable aside from one or two common problems. You will put your mind at ease when you have it checked out.

I have now found some accommodation in Bournmouth and I have booked the SVX into Sparshatts.

Thanks for all of the advice, I will let you know how it goes.

Andy,
Best of luck from the "wrong" side of the pond.
