Re: SVX LED Taillights

Boy is that ever a sexxy looking car in those videos.
Man Chris you should have seen your face when I put it in reverse! LOL And DAMN WAS IT COLD! Even inside the garage! BRRRRRR..... I"ll be down for a set in the near future but as you know I left your place, went home, unloaded the Sports Bumper, took a nap, and went and grabbed my spare EG33 to start building. I don't NEED the LEDs yet but as soon as the ECU is set and the new engine is set I'll be down!

Re: SVX LED Taillights

Looks pretty good so far but not something I would rush to get just now. I would like to see them installed in a car with some high resolution photos both day and night pictures and maybe a video of them on the road (video taken from following behind). Another suggestion would be to show a layout of all the hardware people would be getting for $500.

Still what you have done looks pretty good though.

Yes, I understand. Once Macguyver has them in his possession, he will take pics on his car.

Lookin' good, can't wait to see them in person!

Yep, as soon as I get (and get my car cleaned up halfway decent) I'll get some good high res pictures for every possible scenario, as well as some good youtube videos too.

Re: SVX LED Taillights

I used Philips Lumileds LEDs. These are the specific LEDS used by Lexus, Acura, Infiniti, etc. Yes, the brake lights are bright, but not blinding bright to drivers behind you. I underdrive the LEDs way below their rated value.

Personally when it's time to do my personal set I'll be using tinted/smoked rockblocker on them anyways. But yeah I've followed Chris's car several times with his GC's LED conversion. It's bright but just below the too bright mark. I certainly know I won't have people not noticing when I'm backing up that's for sure!

Re: SVX LED Taillights

I read about these and people are saying that the safest and normal LEDs come at a rate of 3000 mcd probably 4500mcd max. This is why I was asking.

It seems that apkarian used 3mm superflux, I would use less bulbs but 5mm while keeping some space between them (again inspiring from the 06 350z).

But what he did is awesome, no doubt.

Re: SVX LED Taillights

damn, I wish I had money.

If I did, I'd buy a set for a project car restoration SVX... but I can't afford the lights, nor the project car.

They do look great, as do the NSX lights you've done. (as per your avatar... I've seen pics of the NSXs with those installed... such nice cars...)

Re: SVX LED Taillights

The superflux LEDs are actually 7.5mm x 7.5mm. The lens might be 3mm, but not the whole LED. So be honest, those 5mm LEDs have a pretty low max current rating, most on the time only 20mA-30mA. The Philips Lumiled superflux LEDs are rated at 70mA max current, so they will have a longer lifespan, if properly current and voltage regulated, than the standard 5mm LEDs.

Ok then, what do you say about these? Rated at +150000 hours with 150mA if I am not mistaken (sorry I am not an electical Guru, should have asked Miss SilverSpear for that though... )

Check attached.

Re: SVX LED Taillights

1. Unable to solder them onto a through-hole circuit board.
2. Extremely hard to find them in small quantities.
3. Very expensive per unit cost.

Re: SVX LED Taillights

Let me get back to you on these 5mm LEDs but with a soldering design similar to the 3mm ones.
They are not Philips of course though, but much cheaper and will make your kit affordable by everyone here... that if you accept.
