Angry I am pissed off

Things are not going my way this week at all. Paypal is not working! My car is dying and I can't make it to Reading if things don't get fixed by tomorrow! I am just about ready to jump on my engine right now. It is smoking. Rough idle at low RPMs and check engine light is coming on. This is not my week at all. This is just the surface.

Lwin-

I can totally relate. This week has been hell for me too. Keep your head up. Things will get better.

24.

I knew it was going to be that. The only thing going for me is that I can now pull out the whole throttle body in less than 10 minutes now. The part I need to re-adjust is at the bottom.

Lwin,

Don't despair yet. Drive the car, and CORNER HARD.

I really think you have some TB cleaner lodged in there, and nothing more. This is from my experience, although YMMV.

I don't think anything is stuck since I have 2 throttle bodies and I cleaned one out and left it overnight before installing it back on.

Lwin,

I'm not referring to anything physical that's stuck.

I'm referring to the throttle body cleaner (the liquid) possibly blocking air passages. You cleaned the throttle body by spraying the cleaner into it while it's on the car, right?

When I cleaned my throttle body, I removed the air duct attachment to the throttle body, and sprayed probably close to 1/2 a can into there. When I hooked everything back up and started the car, it was black smoke galore, and after some smoke cleared, I was left with a 2200RPM idle.

I took the car out for a spin, and the idle went down a couple of hundred RPMs after every hard corner followed by a stop sign or light. 5 miles, and probably a good dozen hard turns later, idle was back to normal, and the exhaust was no longer smoking.

My theory is that if the cleaner liquid is lodged in air passages in the IAC, as you drive, it comes back out, thru the intake and engine, and gets burned, resulting in the black smoke. Once all the liquid is out of the TB/IAC, the idle should head back to normal.

If I'm right, you'll be at Reading, and I'll expect lunch. If I'm not, you would've had enjoyed a fun and spirited 5 or 10 mile drive.

Nope.

I have 2 of them. Doug gave me one of his. So I cleaned it first and put it in. Then I cleaned the outer and put it back in as well. So both of them were done while they were off the car completly in pieces. I have one sitting by my foot right now.

The smoke is from the engine itself since it is leaking a little and the engine is getting really hot. I got the error code as well I know what to adjust. It will take a good 5-10 re-fitting of the idle air sensor.

The good thing is that I can take the whole throttle body off in about 10 minutes now.

I am a pessimistic optimistic. I think the worst is going to happen, that way when it does, i don't feel as bad, but if the best happens, i am twice as happy.

There isn't a time I have not seen the meet monster yet.

MWM (I) : My car had the tranny change and I had to get there in a different car -- and it was my first meet ever!

Wisconsin Cookout (1): Engine started to leak on the 94L and I arrived as the biggest smokeball ever.

Reading III: On the way to the meet, newly changed bearings failed and the car died at Ft. Wayne IN. Had to get a new car.

10th Anni. Meet: I was moving that weekend. 92LS-L had a radiator leak, 94LSi had a flat on the way to the meet. The spare had a flat too. Had to get a friend to take me to a gas station, filled up the spare and switch the tires with the 92LS-L. I manage to change 3 wheels from 2 SVXes in the record time of around 15 minutes. The jackstand sank into the parking lot's blacktop because the weather was that hot.

Wisconsin Cookout (2): No meet monster ever!!!!

Reading IV: Started with the EPA suspension on my license last week. Took care of that. My car has been bucking for a while too. Thought it was the tranny. While taking care of this, this whole crap starts.

Lwin, I had a bad bucking problem in my 92. Bucked so hard it killed the MAF sensor (replaced with a used one from a 95 Impreza). The bucking went away once I performed the mod to the ECM. And the idle stabilized once the MAF was replaced.

Best of luck.
