I would have to agree with Megan that you most definitely get what you pay for. I shopped around here and ended up choosing the lowest bid. I would not have necessarily chosen the lower bidder, but he had already done some insurance work and a complete paint job on my husband's truck. A lot of bodywork was necessary on the truck since it spent the first half of its life in the humid midwest. And of course, that paintjob wasn't a color change.

I was absolutely shocked and terribly terribly pleased with the job they did on my color change. Only someone who knows the SVX would ever be able to tell that it had been repainted (not a stock color, obviously). Deep in the engine bay it's still claret. But they did the doors and jambs, even took the liner off the inside of the trunk lid.

Penny didn't need a ton of bodywork, but they pulled out all the little dents (especially the deer dents!) sanded and wet sanded, etc. They had her for 2 weeks. I went down nearly every day to see the progress and take pictures. Go check out my locker if you want to see them.

All this for $2K. The only bad part is that the shop that did my work closed the end of the year. Evidently he must have been underbidding a lot. The employee who actually did my work is related to a guy my husband works with, so we can still get help from him, but we now have no warranty.

Anyway, I know that only answers one of your questions. I don't know what color I'd suggest you go with. I'm so in love with my color that I can't suggest a different one.

I am a pessimistic optimistic. I think the worst is going to happen, that way when it does, i don't feel as bad, but if the best happens, i am twice as happy.

I looked at the yellow one in your locker, Scott, and I definitely think it would look better if the trunk was black like a true black over yellow paint job. With the yellow trunk, dare I say it, it kind of reminds me of a Hyundai Scoup.

GreenMarine, go for black over lime green.

Have a couple of cans of what's supposed to be Brilliant Red that I would send you for free - except that spray paint is considered hazardous to ship.

After the fine "job" I did painting my faded roof, haven't driven over 100 miles (only after dark) in the last 3 months. Someday will get up the gumption and get the paint done correctly.

Ok, I have one for you:
this is a quote from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety:
"Colors can create conditions that increase stress, decrease visual perception, and negatively affect safety. Optometrists note, lime yellow is highly visible."

What, exactly, is lime yellow?
Lemons are yellow, limes are green.

i don't know about anyone else, but i'd HAPPILY find $1,600 for a quality paintjob.. 10 people is a lot of people to ask for $1,600, but I think it's ALMOST realistic....

I'm taking the color change plunge hopefully this spring (yeah I said that last spring). I've been driving around with a bent fender for a year and a half just to use the insurance money towards a repaint, so I really need to get the rest of the $$$ and start looking for a shop.

If I do a color change it will be some form of metallic silver/gunmetal.

re: alright, i've got it

i'm offering marine a free paint job. that's right, free. he doesn't have to pay for the paint. i'll paint it for him making it camoflauge. i'm running to home depot to get the spray paint now. i can even put army corp...err...marine on it for ya. that would be so fun spray painting a car.....hmm......
