O/T just got back from getting my XT6

Took 5.5 hours to drive back in POURING rain from Charlottesville, VA. Car drives GREAT. Engine must not know its got 157k on it! My SVX wishes her interior held up 1/2 as well. Not a rip, stain or thin spot on the seats. Couple problems that I have to work out though are: driverside auto belt doesn't auto, powersteering light came on midway home and stayed on the whole trip. Funny thing is though it felt fine except when I'd stop and restart the engine. Then there was no PS. Its a 88 front driver so I don't think it has the cybrid steering but could be wrong. Finally, the car doesn't like to start unless you play with the autoshifter. Guess its got a bad solinoid in there. They look so cute together in the driveway.

xt

I hope to have it Friday. Haven't gotten the title yet so it has an expired VA tag (12-02) and my Justy plate on it. Will try not to drive it in the daylight .

all the XT6s had the Cybrid PS pump. Clean the contacts, and maybe replace the pump. Not too hard to do.

Congrats on your new XT6!
At least since it is a FWD you don't have those pesky air struts to deal with

On the seat belt, if you need parts, any XT will work.

On the PS Pump, like Paisan said, Clean the contact on the rotor (maybe even install new brushes), all this can be done without disconnecting the PS lines, just take it loose from the firewall to get better access.
And ONLY use Subaru's special cybrid steering fluid, as others are supposed to cause problems, it kind of expensive.
I just bought some brushes for mine, was like, $12.00 from a place in Canada, local dealer wanted $45.00 for them!
But when i took it apart, my brushes were still good, just needed to be cleaned out, and the contacts cleaned, now, no more PS light, and works perfect!
Hope she gives you lots of happy miles

The XT6's came equiped with a Cybrid Power Seering system(the only car so equiped, to my knowledge), which is a power steering pump that runs via an electric motor diving the pump, opposed to the more common belt driven power steering pump used on pretty much everything else.

This free's up some power, by not using the engine to turn the pump.

It accually works rather well, don't know why they didn't incorperate it into thier other cars.

Cybrid steering

I just read somewhere that Honda or someone was going to introduce electric power steering to America this year. Guess they forgot about the XT6.

Don't current plans for 'electric power steering' totally replace the hydraulic system, though?

I don't recall my XT6 having the "speed alarm", but my XT Turbo had it, seems like you had to use the key to turn it on, then a buzzer would sound if you went over 55 mph.
Of course that is from my failing memory , I'll have to notice if my XT6 has it when I go home tonight.

It'd be handy if it had it for when Sommer turns 16, might keep her from speeding

speed alarm

Maybe I can rig it so that it will come on if the speed drops below 55 mph.

When are you going to post some pics of your Subie's in your personal locker?

I'd love to but I can't seem to figure the blasted thing out. I grew up with old technology. I know more about DOS than most IT guess do now. This windows stuff just irritates me. Have plenty to show including what happens to an Impreza when it hits a ditch at 70 mph.
