WOW something Ca$h and i agree on! Though our experiences differ...i have challenged several NEW Rustangs on the highway with the X and never once had a problem like that. Mustangs have great torque NOWHERE and are especially dead on the highway. So either this particular one was modded in just the right fashion, or your SVX needs to be looked at.

The only Mustang i ever found even slightly entertaining was the Cobra. But once i got back in a T/A that opinion changed fast. Seriously, what can you expect from a car that is essentially 23 years old?

I beat a 5.0 L rustang (older one) in my 86 Honda Accord. I've also heard that the older mustangs are slower than hell! My experience proved me right.
He must have done something to his.

Eh, my experience as a v8 fan and admirer of RWD v8 powered vehicles disagrees with you completley. The older 5.0 mustangs are pretty damn FAST. He must not have been racing, or he had an automatic. Mustang+automatic= SLOOWWWWW.

This was the 2nd to last year of the 5.0. It soundly kicked the snot out of the SVX in both 0-60 and 1/4 mile. The 5.0 cars ran well when maintained well, like any other car. Unless your car was modded, I doubt you beat a 5.0. Possibly a 2.3, the much more common version of the Mustang???

I've owned an '84 SVO (turbo 2.3), '87 5.0 GT convertible (auto), an '88 ASC McLaren convt. (stick), an '89 LX 5.0 convt. (stick). The 5.) stick cars ran well and would trounce the SVX, especially out of the hole, even with the 2.76 rear ends. Mustang mods are cheap and have a significant impact on the cars performance.

Like I said, 5.0s are fast. If I wanted to go as fast as possible for the least amount of money I'd get an 80s 5.0, they SCOOT.

revenge

Hey Cash, if you want to get back at him, race him off the line when it is wet out. My buddy just got a 98 Camaro S/S LT-1 370hp. I can trounce him off the line. He can't get traction until I'm long gone. I believe the more powerful Mustangs are in the same boat. The real sad thing is that Camaro can't get traction when its dry either. Love that AWD.

HO HO TDOH!

It could have been an automatic, or there could have been something wrong with it. Or since the guy riced it out, it could have just had a 5.0 sticker pasted onit. But I've also heard other people talk of similar experiences racing those cars.

Anyway, It's irrelevant as far as I'm concerned. I don't care for any Ford, no matter how fast or slow they are.

I'm sure that 84 SVO trounced all but the McLaren 0-60 too . Still trying to figure out this 5.0L engine ford produced. I alway found that if it is under 50ccs it is rounded down not up making it a 4.9L. I guess Ford didn't like the sound of that.
