Maybe....
Okay, I found what may be a good deal on an SVX, but it needs work as follows (copied from the seller's info):
"But this one will need some work to bring it back to it's original glory. The transmission is very weak in reverse and will only seem to go foward in second gear, the brakes pulsate, an minor exhaust leak, and the motor is leaking some oil which is burning off the exhaust" It doesn't seem like too much, except maybe the tranny (but that would give me an excuse to play with options). What do you all think? |

We would need to know the year, mileage, model and most importantly price.
If you are buying a 92, remember that getting a tranny replaced will cost almost as much as you could buy another SVX for, so make sure its what you want. Leak may be cam cover gaskets (cheap) or front seals (not so cheap). Other than that, it sounds like a great 5 speed swap project! Doug

It's a 92 LS-L with about 120k miles on it. It's on auction with no reserve price and an opening price of $500. I'm currently watching it to see if there are any takers or if I can nab it for cheap. I have an uncle that's a mechanic and fixes up cars for clients to sell and just for general repairs, so I would have lots of help with fixing her up (he actually got my first car for me, which was an old Dodge Dynatsty)

Thanks for the info.
Personally, I would not be willing to pay more than $1300 for a 92 with an almost dead tranny. Good luck with the auction and the car. You better be real nice to your uncle, he's probably going to need to be around a lot when you get the car. Doug

Well, I do have my old 93 Legacy with a 5MT lying around... I was going to install new shocks/struts and springs, BUT.....
I could cannabilize it for the tranny instead |

500 dollars? Damn even if you didn't have the money to put a new tranny into it, you could make a lot off the parts.
