Steering rack differences
Is there a difference in steering racks between SVX models (LS, LS-L, LSI, etc..) or years, and if so what precisely is that difference?
As to my predicament, my '92 LS-L needs a new rack. The local yard has a '94 baseish model. I want to say I've seen people specify the model when buying racks for these cars, so I wanted to know what I might be missing here if I grabbed the steering rack from a 'lesser' model SVX. |

Re: Steering rack differences
There were differences in the racks between models. The speed sensitive steering rack is not on the base models, the pump may also be different. Rebuilt racks are available from a number of sources.

Re: Steering rack differences
You want a rack from an LS-L or an LSi which are speed sensitive. The LS is RPM sensitive.
If you're getting it installed at a shop, I would get a rebuilt rack. Then you know for sure it's going to last and you won't be paying labour costs again. They seem to run around $350.00. |

Re: Steering rack differences
Thanks for the confirmation. I will not be going back tomorrow for the rack then. I was looking for an alternative to getting a reman'd or having mine rebuilt, but I just go that original route.
Thanks again! |

Re: Steering rack differences
basicly if it came with leather it has the speed sensitive rack, if it didn't it has the base rack. That way you don't have to memorise the 244,000 different model names they used.
