Re: Looking for another car

Very happy with 08 Saturn vue. AT AWD 3.6l. 18-20 mpg mix driving. Dunno if MT is available. Our goal was back seat for kid and room for a yr old lab. He has plenty of room back there. Get up and go is better that my Svx. 6speed AT with taptronic or something like that. Ours came with the small tow hitch (1 1/4"?) Bought used a year ago.

Re: Looking for another car

How about the Jeep Compass? 4cyl (economical), no Turbos or headaches, parts are cheaper than imports... nice looking, and somehow... feminine

How about a Honda Element? They definitely have a lot of room. You can also do picnic in the car from the seats' configurations, and they're pet-friendly vehicle.

You could find a manual one, it's amazing room for the interior, AWD available, decent gas mileage better than most subarus, not too slow, also can tow stuff if you like to, and it should be as reliable as the Honda CR-V.

Just thought of this car since you like doggies and need room to haul stuff.

PS: I have seen the option of picnic table in this utility vehicle. Heck you don't need to tow, you can probably fit two motorcycles in the vehicle. You and your doggies would be happy with it.

Re: Looking for another car

you know an Element might be good for you. No carpet in them so they clean up easy.

I really do like the look and stats for the 2005+ XT line, but I've still heard the same about that motor, besides which finding a stick shift is pretty tough (impossible in Outback form I believe). Sabin's car does sound just the ticket, but if it were me I'd have trouble committing to that motor. I can personally attest to the EJ22 being a real tough SOB, with no issues over years of abuse. The problem is that they're all getting a bit long in the tooth by now, and finding an Outback with one is a real scavenger hunt (only available in 1996 with the 5MT). If you find a '96 EJ22 Outback for sale and pass it by, send it my way.

Thinking outside the box, I really like the Suzuki SX4 Crossover. It really isn't a crossover as much as a new Justy. They're Fiesta/Fit sized but with a part time AWD and folding rear seats it's about as close to an old Subee as you'll find at a dealership today. As for sportyness; it won Pike's Peak, albeit slightly modified.

An easy way to find an ej22 is to look in old legacys say 1990 and up. I had one (1990 legacy l wagon) (my dad owns now) and that engine has nearly 160k miles and runs like a champ. No knocks, no tics, no anything but runs damn good. Sounds so quite on start you'd forget it was running if it wasnt for A/C belts and Power Stearing pumps. But, as I said earlier I'd get a turbo Baja. just b/c I never see em.

I'm thinking about just taking the car to the auction after all that I've read about the engines blowing shortly after the turbo dies.

My friend with the forester is absolutely obsessive about 3k mile oil changes. He has had the oil changed every 3k by the subaru dealer since it was new, which is why SOA has paid for all of the repairs thus far.

Don't get me wrong, you've got a really sweet car. I somehow suspect that I'll always call that "the last real Subaru". GLWTS
so far subaru has never offered a h6 with a stick

it's kinda sad that the only new subaru i like is the tribeca

i change mine every 3-3.5k. only problems i've had in the past 6 years are busted shifter assembly, and an O2 sensor.

i've heard Mobil 1 is not kind to Subaru turbo engines.

Re: Looking for another car

...but what it comes down to is that if you buy used you don't know what you are getting. Some people lease cars and never change the oil in them.

Re: Looking for another car

I thought about the Element, I just don't like the plastic interior (oddly enough). Also hate the "toaster" look. I'll probably test drive some cars soon. Just thinking about some other options.

I like the Honda CRV. Anyone heard of any issues with this vehicle?

The other thing I forgot to mention: MUST HAVE CUP HOLDERS!
