front diff.?

ok so me and my girlfriend took her SVX out today, and we were waiting at a stop light and than took a left turn, all of a sudden there was a loud thump noise, and it didnt go away, we stoped and i took a quick look at it and it sounds like it is coming from the front diff. it is a continious thud, and like scratching noises coming from it when you just coast it in nutral, but when your in drive it will hold back and al of a sudden take off and there is that continious thud noise.... i am going to look at it tommrow, but i just wanted to know if you guys had any opinion on it?
thanks,
Bobby

Re: front diff.?

When most diffs go bad, it's one tooth, so it clunks every revolution, then, as more teeth go, more noise, etc.

There is a SVX diff on ebay right now, $200, but it's a big job to do this without help.

It's much easier the second time around! Good luck, but check it out, make sure it's not a joint or something other than the diff.

Re: front diff.?

i looked at it today and when you put it in gear and go the engine shakes real bad....the dog bone, moror mount on the back, seems like it is shot.... could that be the problem?? maybe the tranny hitting the floor is what we are hearing? or the tranny hitting something or other?
