Tailbar! Subaru, Alcyone switch? No, not THAT one.

I know it's possible to switch out from a US version "Subaru SVX" tail bar to a JDM version "Alcyone SVX" version.. So I'm not talking about THAT one..

But my question is, is it possible to keep the US Subaru assembly and just swap out the thin clear plastic pieces? I know that the Alcyone version has rear fog lights and reverse lights in different places.. so taking that clear plastic piece out of the Alcyone version is absolutely pointless..

Maybe there is a way to get a decal or maybe a replacement part for that thin plastic piece separately without the JDM price tag?

I know that a few people have already removed the "Subaru SVX" logo from the assembly as it is. So, my question is, with that logo removed, would it be possible to just "re-stamp" a NEW logo on there? Such as "Alcyone SVX" or any customized lettering/designs? Or would this not be wise or even possible.. Imagine how cheap this would be compared to getting a whole new JDM assembly!

I'm sure it could be stenciled on there and someone could use acrylic ink to put whatever but I'm thinking that custom decals from a decal making website would be better..

If anyone has any information on if it's possible or what kind of "text" or "ink type" to use for the new logo, please post it.. (Measurements would help as well)

EDIT: This is the exciting part. I just really thought about it a bit more.. You could technically put what ever you want in place of the "Subaru SVX" logo... You could put "Alcyone" in cursive, put your name, could put Alcyone in Japanese characters, name/brand of any vehicle or even simply put in tribal designs!

It's an entirely NEW customizable option!!!

That's a pretty good idea. You could probably go to any sign shop and they could make you up one that says Alcyone SVX. It's just clear plastic, can't be that hard or expensive. I'd take it to them in person though, your odds seem like they'd be higher that way.

As for that thread, it seems like robbery.. I've read it before and never really connected that he was simply switching out the plastic pieces.. It's easily done, as the link demonstrates..

Yes, we currently have a tailbar that says pockchop sandwiches!! on it. You can pull the plastic and put any graphic you wanted in there..> Personally, I pull them out and leave them out... Nice clean look to the tailbar

Good to know. At least now, people know they can do something for relativly cheap instead of paying around $300.00 for the JDM part or $150.00 for a piece of thin clear plastic..

That IS a great idea - not sure what you mean about the rear fog lights and reverse lights in different places. Maybe I'm losing it but my Alcyone tailbar is identical to my old USDM tailbar, with the exception of the wording. Maybe you're thinking about the euro version?

The Alcyone version does NOT have rear fog lights. "Freeman" is incorrect with that fact. The European Domestic Market (or EDM) units do have rear fog lights.

This is a photo of an EDM center tail light with the fog lights illuminated.



The reverse lights are then in the outboard positions where the inner brake lights are on JDM and North American models.

You can get clear "overhead projector transparency" film that is printable with an inkjet printer.

Projector plastic.. What would you hold it in with? Would you just set it in there or tape it on? Thanks for the tip..

As for the Japanese version and the European version, I guess I got my facts mixed.. I'm still learning so thanks for setting me straight!

So the conclusion.. If you're good in Photoshop or know anything at all about computers, you can make your own logo, disassemble the rear tail bar, and set it in place of your Subaru SVX logo.. Or just add to it..

Anyone got any more tips? I think this is a nice cheap mod to do..

EDIT: Also, if anybody has the dementions and measurments of the tail bar plastic, please post!

Wow that was a long time ago. As far as dimensions I remember that the height is 3 3/8in. but I can't remember the length.
