Re: 4.44 , 4.11 or stock ? and why ?

Stock: Fuel economy advantage
4.44: Best kick in the pants
4.11: The balance in between

I totally dig my 4.111s, cos I autocross, but I also drive to the autocrosses... er, and Reading and stuff.

Stock and a QC shift kit w/power mode mod. Unless you're a drag racer this combo has plenty of pep and you still get to cruise at a reasonable rpm. I no longer have a burning desire for 4.44's

Re: 4.44 , 4.11 or stock ? and why ?

I have both 4.44 and 4.11. I never drove stock. I purchased both of my SVXs with bad transmissions. I like the 4.11 better. I guess I like the lower RPM and it has plenty of power.

Re: 4.44 , 4.11 or stock ? and why ?

Question: I currently have a 4.11 tranny out of a wrx sitting around waiting to go in, but I need the rearend still.

Any advice on which to look for? Not many WRX's around here in junkyards, (if any) is there a forester or legacy rearend that would be acceptable?

Re: 4.44 , 4.11 or stock ? and why ?

i have read in the forums .

http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/show...t+differential

The Legacy 4EAT is supposed to be closest in strength to the SVX's, so if you go 4.11, get one from a non-turbo Legacy sedan or wagon. It is worth paying extra to get one from a '96-'98 model.
i found all these information , but i found that they weren't enough for me ,that is why i made this thread.
i'm still not 100% confident about switching differential for a smaller gearing.....i would like to have more feeling , but i am doing alot of highway i guess i should go with 4.11 but still , 4.44 would make a big difference ?

Re: 4.44 , 4.11 or stock ? and why ?

I wouldn't change the ratios unless I was going to a manual trans. I like the 3.54's and don't need anything more from an auto. If I REALLY wanted the car to be more fun I would install a manual trans. My SVX gets better mileage than my parents Forester on the highway and that makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.

Re: 4.44 , 4.11 or stock ? and why ?

3.90 is awesome!

Seriously, it depends on whether you're going AT or MT. I don't believe anyone has had especially good luck with the 4.11 4HEAT AT. The 4.44 4HEAT AT looks to be the ticket in terms of longevity. If you're going MT, I'm loving the 3.90, especially since I've got the R180 with a real LSD in it!

lol. Bingo. It was (is) mad JDM. A friend bought a motor and tranny together for his WRX, but didn't need the tranny, so I picked it up from him for mad JDM cheap.

Regarding 4EATS';
I have installed dozens of 4.44s, and THREE 4.11s.
Every 4.44 has held together,
(except for Chi ke's cracked bell housing)

and all three 4.11s have had issues.

I believe the reason is that the 4.44s last is that with the 4.44 you have lower gear ratios that take our heavy cars up to speed with less strain on the transmission.
A 4.44 (compared to the stock gears) has 37% more torque in first,
31% more torque in second and
25% more torque in third and fourth.

A 4.11 transmission has 16% more torque (compared to stock gearing)
In all gears.

The lower gearing gives us the "Best kick in the pants"
while only turning about 500 RPM higher than a 4.11 at 70 mph.
I have stated in the past, and PM'd on many occasions that I would only install a 4.11 IF it were rebuilt.
