opinions on spoiler please

So I took the spoiler off my 92 cause I thought it looked better, but I think I am noticing a bit of a difference. It feels like above 70mph or so the rear of the car is rather loose. I am not too prone to the placebo effect, so I think, but I swear there is a noticeable difference.

So, do any of you have any seat time in your car with the spoiler on, off, and/or moved back 2"?

What do you guys think about the actual downforce it may give at higher speeds?

Come on, At 70 I find it hard to believe that there can really be a difference Its not a functional wing...and besides, I think the SVX looks terrible w/o a wing

So you are implying that it is just the big fat butt of the svx that causes it to want to slide a bit?

placebo effect...The only aerodynamic benefits the factory spoiler could theoretically add would be it acts as a vortex generator, allowing the boundary layer to be turbulated in such a matter that the point at which it regains contact with the car is closer to the back, with more energy than it would have had unturbulated, helping create a higher pressure spot at the rear, offsetting the pressure difference at the front of the car slightly to create less drag (think something similar to the effect of dimples in a golf ball)

But, I hardly think that if, in fact, the spoiler provided this particular benefit effectively, you wouldnt be able to tell a difference in handling at al, at any speed, because the pressure offset would aid only in lowering the drag coefficient, allowing for a marginally higher speed. And to be honest, I think the spoiler is too far back on the car to even do that. You'll feel more effect in acceleration removing 7 lbs of dead weight from your tunklid

edit:
P.S.- Looks better without it. Remember, guigario's sketches didnt have a spoiler

Well, I sure notice a difference. It may not be at 70 mph, but at higher speeds I can sure tell. I have driven them with all 3 options that you mention. None, regular placement, and moved back. The only difference that I have noticed is when it was on or off. It is not nearly as stable if it is off then when there is a spoiler. I have also heard that it is a functioning spoiler and would agree.

well I heard that it was a functioning spoiler, but after looking at it I can't see how functional it is. Anyone remember the chapperals (sp?)?!

You have driven with dimples??
Seriously I think the spoiler is a great addition to the SVX.
I just checked with my wife and she said without a spoiler it looks blah and dorky. I am inclined to agree with my wife! (It's like I actually have a choice, right?)

Sorry again.

My wife saw what you wrote and said she has to agree with you... You certainly are sorry alright. Also, that is the last time she would try to help you with your blah and dorky looking car, and if you weren't a Texan, she wouldn't have tried to help you in the first place.

Wow I remember that.

I used to pitch fast pitch softball in the Dallas-Ft. worth area and when the sun went down it would be 100 degrees and the humidity would be 100%.

It is 42 degrees here now

Have a great night!
Keith

(you are forgiven)
