ECU with no ROM adapter
I am trying to install the ECUtune stage1 v5 chip into my 92 svx, but there is no ROM adapter on the board for it to plug into. Has any one else found this problem with their ECU? I do not want to have to try to solder it in place, seems a bit above my level of electronics experience. Any one have a suggestion?

Being a fluke ecu, you could still solder it in. You can do it!

soldering so many pins
rather than solder the board directly in to the motherboard, maybe I should look for a socket adapter and solder it in in case there issues later.
Anybdy know of good source for spare ECU for trade?? |

Just get a socket from Digi-Key or Mouser Electronics, and get a fine tip 35W soldering iron to go with it, it's not hard at all... I'd offer to do it for ya, but you'd have to mail me your ECU...
*edit* Just noticed you're in Portland... I'm not too far from ya... If you got a socket I could do it if you bring it down on a weekend...

JDM ECUs are like that. Maybe somebody fitted a JDM ECU. Does it have a 110mph speed limiter?
Your best bet is to swap it for an ECU with a socket.

It definitely does not have 110 mph speed limiter. I will start shopping for a different ECU, but depending on price I may try the socket.

I just replied to an email he sent me with the same pictures and questions. I'm a little bit perplexed by the cover being hitachi and the innerds being jecs. Between that and never seeing an ecu like that in a US spec SVX my reply was actually a question rather than an answer...What's the history of this car? Where did it come from?
It seems unlikely it's a US spec SVX ECU. I'm curious what it is. If the car is a US spec SVX I would just get a used US spec SVX ECU rather than messing with this one. They are as close to free as you can get. |

Special ECU for 07/91 only??
Trying to find a replacement ECU that has the ROM socket installed;
As I start searching there seems to be some changes in the first year. those built 06/91 or before; those built only in 07/91; and those built in or after 08/91. My vin number ends in 103641, with a date of mfg 07/91. Can anyone confirm that if I buy a replacement listed as for 07/91 that they will have the RM socket?? Or should I buy a newer version of the ECU? |

not cheaper than dirt
By the way, ECU prices for the ECU run from $75 to $350 at car-part.com

You can use any ECU from 92-95 but the 93+ will throw a CEL for an EGR temp sensor. You need to find another 92 ECU and like I said, never seen one without a socket before and I would assume the new one you buy will have a socket

AFAIK Fitting LAN's eprom should convert it to a 92 ECU, so shouldn't be any problem with the sensor.
