Help creating a website, I need!

I'm going into this a bit blind since I've never built a website before, but I'll need to buy rights to a name (once I pick one) and find a server to host (any ideas how much that will cost?

Now, I'll need to build the page its self, but I'm not sure just how to go about that... Can I get software for that, and how much? I'll be trying to sell powerwashing jobs mostly with some lawn care, I have a digital SLR, so I can get some good before and after photos to add to my collection, I just need more space to explain what I do than a newspaper advertisement can provide.

Am I making sense? I know that there are a few programers lurking in the wings here

It's around 7:30am here and I'm not awake yet, sipping my first cup of coffee. But I would suggest you start with a search on "building web site". I just quickly checked and got lots of seemingly decent results along with lists of available free and commercial software.

Yes, there are programs available that will allow you to build a web site without having to actually learn all about html code. You'll probably have to try out a few before you find one that suits you.

I'll check back in a few hours after another coffee (or two) and walking the dog. Frankly I haven't built a web site in over 5 years so my software recommendations would be outdated and old.

MS Frontpage is fairly easy to use and I think comes with the Word Suite?
I don't like it, but was forced to learn it in school.

I can probably be of some help later...

You might be in luck...
Microsoft just launched it's Office Live Beta, and if you sign up for the beta of the basic service you'll get a free domain name, and free hosting for life.
http://officelive.microsoft.com/
Using this service you're limited to using their site builder tool, but it might meet your needs perfectly.

If you want something a little more flexible I'd recomend getting your domain and hosting from GoDaddy (godaddy.com). The hosting starts at $3.99/month and the domain will be $1.99 (it's $8.95/yr seperately). Then you can use Microsoft Frontpage to do your editing (GoDaddy's site builder is an additional fee). Some people will pick on Frontpage for not having enough capabilities, but it's really a great piece of software to use if you're not familiar with coding.

This is a website I built using Frontpage
