Changing ATF, any thoughts?

I am very bad at changing ATF. Any pointers and "do not do's" for the finnicky SVX?

Basically replace what you drain. If you can check the ATF fluid level properly then you have nothing to worry about.

More advanced steps would be to replace both filters especially if they've never been replaced.

My last two "flushes" have been done by just disconnecting the outlet hose from the tranny to the cooler and letting the engine run for 30 seconds or so, until the fluid starts to sputter. Then I add another couple of quarts and run it again for good measure. It's best to do this with a friend in the driver's seat ready to turn off the engine as soon as you signal, since you don't want the tranny to run dry for very long. The last time I did this was back in 2001-2002, by myself since I have remote start/stop, and it's still running fine now. Speaking of which, it's time for me to do another flush.
