Why cant i get the axles out?

is there a trick to the axles? i spent the last 2 hours trying to get them outta the tranny. Any secret subaru trick? let me know please!!!

I'm not sure where your hangup is...

If the axle is loose at the tranny/diff end and you have is loose at the hub end you will have to undo something to move the hub away a short distance to allow the axle to come out. In front, the three bolts holding the ball joint to the control arm are easy and won't affect the alignment.

if you're talking about the front half-shafts, there's pins going through the end (transmission side) that lock it to the tranny, you'll see the pins going right through the middle of the shaft on the end. Make sure not to pull too hard after you get the pins out or you'll pull the shaft-ends out of the tranny! (I made that mistake, gave me a couple white hairs but it went back in ok).

finally got the axles out. Seems i had the axles just the right way that i couldnt see the pins. Figures... Tranny is off (another nightmare) and im in then process of removing my flywheel for the new one.. After all this i will be so happy when she is back on the road working right!! thanks for the help guys.
