Power Sun Roof Motors

I'm been meaning to ask this ... Dayle maybe?

Is there anyone out here rebuilding the power sunroof motor? Mine's slowly on it's way out and could use a little pick-me-up.
THanks
~Brenda

It opens & it closes. However, it only closes with assistance and when the car is not moving (moving = wind resistence = extra work for motor). Qnyone rebuilding these?

That's a common problem for most SVX's. A little nudge with the hand while opening was my cure. You can get in there with a can of silicone spray too. I did that with mine and it made a big difference.

I cleaned the track and also used silicone spray and mine open and close most of the time. Sometimes need a little push, but not very often.

While this may work with Opening the sunroof, she stated the problem was in closing the sunroof, cleaning the tracks may help, may not (but either way won't hurt). Does the motor sound the same when opening and closing, does it seem "weaker" sounding right from the start when you go to close it or does it bog down after moving the roof a little?

Have you tightened the clutch nut yet? The sunroof operates by a friction clutch, not direct drive like the windows. Over time, it wears and no longer has enough force for the open or close operations.

It's been mentioned before and I figured it was common knowledge by now. It's under the round plastic cover just aft of the dome light and roof. This is the same location you stick the allen wrench Subaru gave you to manually open or close the sunroof. There is a large gold hex nut that tightens the assembly. Simply open the roof all the way and tighten this nut a bit.

I think the thread that discusses how this is done in detail (including pics) in the technical section, just do a search for it.
