My Lightweight SVX

there is something i wanna share with you guys concerning the exact weight of my SVX. There have been much said about lightweighing it, well this saturday i had the opportunity to take it to the Government's Car Checkup center (i dunno what you call it over there) to see if the car is suitable for road use (is there is nothing damaged in it... yeah they were checking my car!! hehe FUNNY).

The first thing they asked as usual: "What the Hell is that car?" .
-it's a Subaru.
"4WD?"
-Yup
"go to the 4X4 section then..."
-OK
the weight scale computer over there read: 1505 KG
So i quickly thought of what was said about it in our forum..
Took my Cellphone, Calculator... and starting doing some math:
I was like according to lbs, my car is 3315 lbs !!!
Is that good?
i still have to put some light seats and do my 6mt conversion!!!
can i get to 3000lbs with that?

Well a stock 92' SVX weighs in at 3525 pounds, I believe they may have shed a pound or two over the years, but definately not 200 (atleast not in AWD form). So I'd say you're in pretty good shape.

My '94 L supposedly weighs 3350 or so. But I have never actually had it weighed.

My first thought is that the scale might not be accurate. How often is it calibrated, I wonder?

If he's replaced enough of the sheet metal with fiberglass, I could believe that it weighs 3315 lbs.

6MT won't save any weight. Its just as heavy as the stock auto.

hehe, like daily!!, and second they are very strict in that control, like if they see a drop of oil outside the engine, they would turn it down...

and guys, i have replaced most of the body metal with fiberglass, for example i have removed the metal parts out from both the front and rear bumpers and replaced them with lightweight fiberglass... and you know about the hood... and i have emptied my trunk, no spare, no jack........

If you removed the metal from the front and rear bumpers, it means that you have no bumpers, merely bumper covers. Good luck if you ever get in an accident. With all your street racing, I wouldn't be surprised if we stopped hearing from you.

My dear collin, i have manufactured two light metal bumpers (under the fiberglass) both in front and back in a way in case of impact, the bumper absorbs the shock successfully and goes back to its place...
I am not that stupid you know!!!

I'm sure that your 'light metal' bumpers will absorb the shock successfully.

the bumper thing is not a big deal. my father owns 2 vw fiberglass sand bugs made for the streets. one little bar on the front and back. just have pay more at attention to everyone witch is a good thing (more alert). witch could also be better than u thinking u are safe and sound with the bumpers. so how many fatties put it up to weight?

My dear Collin, again

At first i hesitated about even putting those metal bumpers underneath the fiber things, you know why? even though driving over here is not that regulated, I am "a professional rally driver" trained by the best over here. I can also drive a Six Wheeler (and licensed for it) as you breathe air...

Plus, rarely over here accidents are deadly because our roads are not as wide as in the states... so the most damage one can make to my car is a light bump on my bumper causing it to break..

Sorry about the way i put it, seems i was bragging about myself, but what i just told you is a fact.

I just strenghened a little bit the rear metal bar, just to be on the safe side from a stupid women trying to park behind me...
