better sooner than never .....
1. Undo the bolts to the radiator, theres 4 in total 2 on each bracket. 2. Swivel back the radiator towards the engine. 3. Hook one hose up to your new cooler and clamp it down. 4. Slide the cooler into place between the radiator and A/C condensor ( looks like a small radiator) 5. Put a clamp on the drivers side tranny line so that no fluid will spill out. 6. Take the hose off and hook the hose from the new cooler into the stock cooler. 7. And put the line you took off the stock cooler into the new cooler. 8. Just pull the radiator back and put the bolts back on and your done http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/sho...ler+soobiesvx93 Lotta good info in that thread

I wanted to add my two cents.
I installed a B&M tranny cooler. I put mine in front of the AC condenser. I don't know why you'd put it in between the condenser and the radiator. It seems to me that, that way, you're putting it in between two sources of heat. In front of the condenser, it's out in the open air. Anyway, I find fewer arguments for putting it between the condenser than I do against it. Fitting the cooler in front of the condenser is a piece of cake, even if somebody tells you it can't be done. You just have to pull the bumper and cover off as one. No problem, although it is heavy. Plenty of room to work in. Good luck!

i agree that in between the radiator and ac condensor is not the best place...
due to the fact that they are both heat sources, however, the ease of installation wqas why i did it there...' plus... like kuoh was saying, it takes a good bout of sumnmer heat for the TC to lockup for me.... much smoother shifts too btw.. |

You can also put the atf cooler in the left front fender well. Check out SVXRide's locker for pics. This is a nice location because the aft cooler gets a fresh stream of air, and the waste heat from the cooler does not get directed to the radiator. The drawback is that its a bit more in-depth installation.

I also have a B&M #70255 in front of the condensor. Bought them both from either Jeg's or Summit.

I got mine from Autozone here and installed it directly onto the radiator.
I'm thinking of getting a second one and mouting them side by side (or heck, right on top of the first one). I'll just run one in the winter and two in the summer. I have no AC condenser.

Did you have to prime it?
Hey thanks for all the feedback. I was showing the big 20x10" Transmission Cooler I got for my SVX to my roommate and he was asking how do I prime it. I think someone touched on this but I want to make sure everyone is agreed here. Do I need to prime the cooler with Tranny Oil before I connect the hoses? Or will the air just move into the tranny and I can fill it at that time? Thanks All.
BTW big hats off to Summit Racing. I think they are FAR away, I did cleap ground shipping and expecting to take like 7 days I got it in 3!!!! Things where well packaged, came with a free catalog and even a Summit Racing Baseball cap. The cap kinda makes me look like white trash though. Haha... I plan on installing this next weekend. It is summer right now though and the days are getting longer and longer here in Nor Cal. So I may just do it after work, I need to get a good close look and see if I need to buy any tools. All I got is a basic ratchet set right now. |

I never primed mine. It wouldn't hurt to do it though.
Yeah - Summit is awesome with shipping. I have had the same experience as you every time I ordered from them.

best location for cooler
The difference in mounting the cooler in front of the a/c condensor or between the radiator and a/c condensor is: cooler is 100% efficient in front of the a/c condensor, between the radiator and condensor it is 75% efficient.

I got my atf-cooler installed in the left front corner. It is connected in line with the stock cooler.
The front openings are still too small. I'll connect them to have three long openings. However, due to the lower air-pressure at the side, there is a constant air-flow. I hope this ensures a long life for my tranny. So far it just went 33000 miles. |
