The continuing saga

My insurance company may end up totaling the car... so the question comes up ... does Virginia do Salvage Titles... I'm new here and I know that some states will not license a salvaged car...

Thanks for the input...

I just now saw this thread. First, sorry for the breakage.
Second, Thanks for the kind words Guys.

And for $600.00 or so in parts, $332.5 in labor, (9.5 hours at $35.00 an hour), some filters and fluids, you can be back on the road with LOTS more torque!!!
16% more with 4.11s, and 36-25% more with 4.44s.Tom

So your tranny blew and their going to total the car? I would kick someone in the nuts if they did that.

TOM! I'll be calling you as soon as I hear from the insurance company... I would assume tomorrow. I'm going to need a new diff.... the teeth are all stripped off the planetary gears... how is that going to affect that price you have up there?

This is all new to me. Is that the cost to repair his automatic or for a changeover to a 5 speed trans........Sometime in the future i'd be interested having a 5 speed conversion.........Sounds like your in Md or near by........

If you can do not total it!!!
A car with a "R", reconstructed title has only half the value of a car with a regular title AT BEST!

The price quoted is an estimate for swapping the complete transmission, and rear end, while switching to alternate gears,(4.11 or 4.44).
So the condition of the existing trans does not matter.
If you switched to a stock transmission the labor would be a couple hours less.
My cell phone went into the Potomac while floating yesterday, so my work # is 301-689-9890 Tom

My cell phone now works

Neither, it is the cost of replacing/upgrading to an AWD 4EAT with 4.11 or 4.44 gears, in an SVX awd.
The labor prices are a sure thing, but the prices on used parts are up to the discretion of the parts supplier.
So far we have been able to get the trannys for $500 for all but one, that was a 75000 mile one from a 1998 Legacy GT. It was $550.
A 5 speed conversion takes a LOT longer to do, and would cost more. Tom.

Well I've been talking to Tom... and I'm going to take him up on the replacement. I called off my insurance company and hope that my rates won't go up because I've pissed off my claims adjustor.... I will keep up with the up dates....

Ah, another disciple for Mr. SVXFiles! He is most wise in the ways of 4.44 and 4.11. I humbly wish I myself could join his congregation....

have you decided on 4.44 or 4.11 or stock?

tom did my conversion to 4.44 and i must say he is the best car tech i have ever had. their wasnt a bolt loosened on my car that tom didnt call and fully explain about. granted i had no idea what he was talking about with my limited car knowledge, but it was nice knowing what was going on. he evened talked my dad through changing my alt. i would have done it myself but i was in a chem class. it tool him about a week to get it all together and i learned alot about the car.

First of all ... Sorry this took so long...

Next... WOW! It was worth the 150 mile ride in a tow truck with no shocks, no airconditioning and a truck driver that was (how should I say this?) A little right of Adolf Hitler... tow up to Cumberland Maryland to visit with TOM SVXFILES for the afternoon. After I went into town to get a rental car..(a story for the Not Exactly Forum) I was back at Route 40 Auto Sales and got to drive two of Tom's SVX... The first one was a Pearlie (felt like I was at home again) with the 4.11 gearing... I was impressed... The car shot up the hill and felt like I have never felt the SVX launch!... I took a bout a mile trip up and down route 40 just to get the feel of the shifting, and I liked it... Then I got a thrill that I wasn't expecting... Tom let me take the supercharged 4.44 geared SVX for a little spin..... I felt it break rubber in first and second... It launched!!!!! Now those of you that have followed some of my tiraids about street racing may be a little surprised at my next statement.... I'm re-thinking my whole out look on those little rice rocket hondi and eclipsi that pull along side and race their ricy fart piped engines.... ....

More good news... Tom left me a voice mail today saying that my tranny has been delivered!!! I see light at the end of the tunnel!!!

Thanks Tom! I'll see you soon!!!

what's this... Mitch is going out honda hunting???

due to what was availible on short notice and my (then) aversion to jackrabbit starts we found a 4.11...
