Funny you should mention that. While I was in FL over the weekend, my mom and I saw an...odd...squirrel. It was a real light tan with a black mask and a ringed tail. My mom swore that it was much bigger than a normal grey squirrel. I believe the words I used were, 'you're on crack.'

<cough>

Anyway, I searched a little (at 12kbs since their phones lines were noisy) and found the squirrel. It was apparently a fox squirrel - which, it turns out, can be twice the weight and 50% longer than a regular grey squirrel.

It was weird looking.

I wonder what it tastes like.
Never heard of one of those before

Looks like it could be more of a light red, maybe a young Bordeaux?

Yep. This would be your common red squirrel. I see a lot of these on my way to work . . . in the road . . . not moving . . . lifeless . . . in other words . . . dead. I think the poor things are suicidal -- they seem to enjoy running out in front of cars.

All this squirrel talk is making me hungry. Maybe I should go shoot one of the 30 or so bastards in my back yard that I've been feeding bird food to for the past 2 years. MMMMM... Tasty!

Thumbs up

I start this thread lamenting the loss of one of my four-wheeled friends, & less than a dozen posts later we're into recipes for four-legged vermin.

That's what I love about this asylum.

The one you saw was a Sherman's Fox Squirrel, a subspecies (less meat, but a little richer)

Funny...I thought baby was the other, other white meat.

I got as far as understanding that there were three subspecies of fox squirrel, but at 12kbs I wasn't about to get picky with finding out specifically which one I had seen.

I'm not exactly a squirrel-watcher.

That actually sounds kind of dirty, now that I think of it...'squirrel-watcher...'
