ATF flush

What is the best method to flush the transmission and especially the factory ATF cooler in the radiator and it"s associated lines? I want to do this when I install my remote cooler and filter.

Thanks,
Tom

RE: ATF Flush

For your factory radiator cooler area check the kit by Pioneer < www.pioneerautoinc.com/best.htm > this or something similar shoud do the job.

Regarding the transmission itself, I have no experience yet, but have read if done incorrectly can casue problems. Plan to visit an area shop that does this and ask a lot of questions and hopefully get to watch it done.

The process is to hook a flushing machine to the transmission (aftrer draining it) and running a special chemical through the entire transmission and filter out all loose particles and contaniments.

How they then get all the flush fluid out, I'm not sure, believe they use compressed air. Local radio auto show guru says, after the compressed air, they then run 16 quarts of ATF through the system to remove the flush chemicals. Need to ask him what they do with the 16 quarts of ATF after they flush with it.

That may be something best left up to a mechanic. I took mine down to my mechanic and I think he charged me $85 for the whole job. He flushed the trans, replaced the fluid, changed filters, and put some additives in that he recommended for higher-mileage transmissions. I figured since the trans is the most common point of failure in these cars, I didn't want to be the one opening it.
