It is a different version of the H-6. I am pretty sure there is nothing the same as our cars.

Some models of outback have a 3.0L 212hp dohc h-6. It is a TOTALLY different engine from our svx's, but what's cool is it sounds exactly the same. It comes on the VDC, the Bean, and the "H-6" model outbacks.

The L.L.Bean and the VDC have been around since '01, and I believe the base H-6 was new this year.

Actually, me and the wife are looking into an '04 black/onyx L.L.Bean. That new color is simply gorgeous. But I think we'll end up with a used Black or Regatta Red L.L.Bean, just because of the price.

H-6

Hi Rob, Subaru brought those out while you were messing around with Rap music reviews. Take care, BOBB

Thumbs up

I saw a H-6 outback last year. I test drove the VDC last year as well. VDC is very nice. I love it.

That 3.0 just sings. I love that engine. A few weeks ago we had a bean that had some engine noise from the chain case. I was instructed to take it for a spirited drive to see if that made the noise go away. I had a blast with the car, came back, and the noise went away!

The outback is still a pretty big car for 212 hp. I've had some customers that were still not satisfied with the power. (including my mother)

I love the interior of the VDC. Power is pertty good for the car and it can take off pretty quick. MacIntosh system is pretty good. I am not too happy with the 2 tone exterior colours but I was told they can paint it to a matching colours.

Check your info, Lwin. The outback comes in a number of single tones for 04.

Good. I may have to go to the dealer tomorrow to check them out again. They don't have 5 speed VDCs yet right?

No. that would not be possible as the VDC system's functions are very much a part of the automatic.

The problem with the monotone paint is that Subaru picked the ugly colors for it. The mono Silver is sharp, and I'm holding judgement on the mono Seamist until I see one in person. But all the others I've seen are just plain ugly. Like I said, my favorite new paint is the two-tone Black Mica over Onyx Metallic. With that paint and the new wheels on the Beans, I think it's the sportiest looking Outback yet.

As for the engine, I drove a '99 with the 2.5L, and I thought it was "adequate", so I think the H-6 should be a good fit.
