Help! I need a transmission filter, dealership is FUBAR

Alright, I tried to buy that filter kit for 12 dollars, and they couldn't get it. So they said they could order JUST the filter for $57.00. WTF. Of course I won't do that. Anyway, I remember hearing that any 'oil' filter will work. What one should I get???

Rob,

If you don't take Phil's offer....my $0.02

The oil filter method requires an aftermarket filter adapter - the Suby filter is a custom product as far as I have been able to determine.

For the aftermarket adapter - I would caution against just "any" oil filter as some come with pretty thin sheet metal walls, and the ATF lines have more pressure than oil lines.

Alternately you can pick up, at most good parts places, a simple inline filter expressly made for AT use @ ~ $25. Beav recommended this to me a year or so ago.

Yes the filter has to be made for ATF, it is not the pressure that is too high, it is actually down around 7 to 10 psi in the cooler circuit. It is that the engine filters are too fine and will restrict the flow.

Harvey.
