Angry Crap

I just got my front end on my SVX back together last night (Bad Wheel bearing from the Dragon), and today on the way to see the "Matrix Reloaded"...Tha timing belt breaks , crap, crap, crap, crap , it seams that there is ALWAYS something with that car ....I don't know why I love it so

I guess I should be thankful that I've got ol' faithful (my XT6), and also that it didn't crap out on me on the way to/from the Dragon

Sorry to vent here, but I know you guys know how I feel

Still don't know if the water pump or oil pump seized to cause it to shread the belt, but should have it apart tomorrow, and will know then.

Thanks for listening...

I know what you mean. It would be nice to just be able to drive without worry, or wondering what the next thing that might go out on ya. Sorry to hear that, and I will be watching to see if anything else froze to shred the belt.

Any idea how many miles you had on that belt?

My car has 100,000 miles now but I have no idea if/when the previous owner changed the timing belt.

So Earl since you have 4 SVXi does that mean you worry 4x more than a single svx owner. I think you may need to uload one of them on me so as to prevent an ulcer or any further damage.

I've got no ideal how many miles were on it, the car has 155k, on it now, had about 145k when I bought it back in 2000 (I don't drive it much), and don't know if the belt had ever been changed

The previous owner, pretty much trashed the car, so I doubt that he had it changed, don't know how long he had owned it, but he wasn't the first owner.

I'll find out later today if anything siezed, or if the belt just went south.

i wonder if that was the original belt! i was going to do my belt/H2O pump this summer, but i think i'm gonna wait 'til next year. if yours went at 155k and was original, i should be OK for another year. hopefully this will be the last problem you have for another 155k miles!

Got it apart, the water pump was locked up, and both the idler pulleys on the passenger (Right) side were melted till the ball bearing fell out, and the tensioner idler is so tight, I can barely turn it
Probably $300-400 in parts

I could've built a supercharged 2.7, 6-cylinder for my XT6 and had a faster, lighter car, that probably wouldn't break down near as often

If you can't tell, I'm pretty disgusted with it at the moment

Wow - this sucks. What could cause such a catastrophe - more specifically, what is the pm to not have this happen.

Actually, because I have 4, I don't get many miles on any one car. That makes the maintenance only 1/4 as often, and the mileage goes up slowly. Thank you for your concern though.

The main difference (problem) with having 4 is that repairs can backup 4 times as much if you don't keep up!

look on the bright side - if it was an interference engine, $400 would be small change!
the biggest horror with 928's was breaking a timing belt. if it broke, you got to watch at least $6000 fly out of your wallet. most people replaced the belt, pump, and had the tensioner rebuilt at 45k, or 5 years just to be safe. age of the belt is also a factor, so your belt may have been over 11 years old - although it sounds like your belt wasn't the problem.

Or, if you want to do the same thing on all of them - X4. It helps to put a couple in storage and drive a couple more often.

That really bites Huck, but another bright side is that you have the ability to do the work yourself.Only a few of the people here would attempt a job like that themselves.
