Exclamation SVX in autocross next weekend - DC area.

I know - this belongs in "meets" and ...it IS. BUT as it's a quickie for next SUNDAY the 27th., We need a bigger audience.
Sooo... It's the kick-off event for this year's DC area Mercedes Club autocross schedule, FEATURING Harry's virtually unbeatable RED '97 SVX. AND... It's being held in convenient Silver Spring, MD, right off Rt 29. Go to www.gws-mbca.org/ for details & directions. For those DC area SVXers that missed Reading, it's time to atone for your sins. Be there or be unround.

Ron (now kicking racing tires).

Define unbeatable?

I'm dyin ta know...

My second car is a TR-8 that's a LOT better autoX car than the SVX (no offense) but if I could get the ol' Suby to be a tossable as the 8, I'd be in heaven... What's the secret?

TR8

You got a TR8 do ya? I thought they made like 2600 or so of 'em. Or is yours an actual hardtop. There's been one in the paper here for a few weeks. I'd love to have it but the only wedge I can afford now is the XT . Heck I'd even take an TR7 if I had to but my guess is I'll simply wait and get a Lotus 7 clone kit car. Would prefer an original Brit but then my SVX would loose her garage.

(OT) Hey, if you're buyin' I'm sellin'

I's actually in Hemmings now (I think) It's an 80 Tr-8 Convertible. California car so it's the aluminum 3.5l V8 with AC and Fuel injection (700 made)... It's a lot of fun to get into in a crowded parking lot and start it up. People just don't expect "That Sound" from what they think is a 4-banger. I ran A008's on the street for 2 years and it was a slot car.

Of course it's 1100 lb's lighter than the SVX.

TR8

She's beautiful. British Car mag did a test of the Group 44 race TR8 a few years back. Now that's a screaming racecar! Too bad Triumph didn't have the money by that point to run it as such. It was a savior for British Leyland but it just came too late! By chance are you bringing down to Imports at Carlisle in May?

WWIII,
Bring the TR8!!! It is amazing what shows up at the Mercedes Club to run autocross. The first time you just pay you money (I think it will be $18 this season) and run - 3 practice runs in the morning and 3 runs for real time (best of three) in the afternoon. After the first time one MUST be a member of the Mercedes Club in order to be able to participate. Get there early or you might not be able to run. Fifty (50) cars is the limit to sign up for an autocross unless you own a Mercedes or pay for the year in advance (saving money, of course).
It's great fun and really good for the sole and relieving stress too.
Harry

Smile

OK - One last push to the top 'o the list. Come on DC'ers, it's THIS SUNDAY! It's gonna rain Saturday, & be BEAUTIFUL on Sunday. At least three other SVXes guaranteed to be there, with another SVXer driving a "mystery" car. Ooooo! I can hardly wait to see THIS!

Come on down!!!

Ron (Hype sells!)

Engine trivia - that aluminum V8 was the Rover V8, originally a Buick V8 from the early 60's - for some reason, Buick sold the manufacturing rights to Rover. Later tried to buy the rights back and got turned down.

Rover smart - Buick dumb. It's a great engine.

Actually, it was the BOP aluminum V-8. BOP stood for Buick, Oldsmobile & Pontiac. The engine waent into the following cars:
Buick Skylark
Olds F-85
Pontiac LeMans.
These were GM's compact cars other than the Corvair.

The engine was a GM/Alcoa design. It was advertised as nodular high silicon aluminum. It had removable cast iron cylinder liners and Alum. piston rings.

GM finally sold the tooling to Rover for the Rover 3500. I think because the engine was a dated design from pre-emission days and I suspect it was quite expensive to produce.

There's one of these 215 CID V8s resting in the motor bay of a certain green Morgan that usually shows up at the Benz event.
It DO Do good!! It SOUND even better!
