So...from experience, whats the BEST visor fix?

A matter of clarification here... We aren't talking "ugly" here... We are talking a defective plastic thingie that causes the visor to droop and not stay up in place. The extra fabric would actually cause it to droop more!

I drilled through the plastic and put a rivet through everything, does not move anymore, but thats what I have good sunglasses for..., I suppose you could drill it, and put a nail in there so you could remove it if you had to, My passenger one is good, but warn passengers before they try to put it down.

I replaced mine with a set of Chinese DVD player sun visors. Verdict: meh. Fitment isn't that great, and the mounts kind of suck...but at least they stay up, and can be folded down when needed. And, I can play Contra, Tetris, and SMB1 on my sun visors

Buy 2 neodymium magnets, superglue one to the top of the visor on the outer edge, then stick the other one to the roof..... if its a larger one it should stay on magnetically without glue. Voila!! Down when u need it, stays up when u dont!

My "fix" was to merely move the visor to the full windshield position. It doesn't droop there, is not in the way, still useful, easily accessed, and if I put it back to ceiling position it will stay put for a few hours before it drops a few inches.

Easy, but I suppose your results may vary.

I think "fixing" the existing SVX visor system in any way is not really a permanent solution. It can't be a solution unless you fix it better than new, because the OEM visor droops due to bad design and engineering.

So the fixored one will eventually droop also.

What we need to consider fitting is the internal swivel mechanism from a similar but better high end luxury car visor.

Would the swivel mechanism from a BMW 5 or 7 series fit our mounting plate, or a Mercedes one perhaps?

One that would stay working would be more worthwhile opening the visor housing to install. IMO.

Is there a reason we can't retrofit the mechanism from other similar era Subaru's? I remember my 91 Legacy's visors looked pretty similar to the ones in my SVX...

My visors don't droop so I don't have much motivation here...

The next time I encounter a droopy visor situation, I'll pursue a solution (I like your suggestions Joe. I'll keep them in mind). For now, all of my cars have good tight visors.

I am also lucky, all my cars have good tight working visors. Only my first Claret car came anyway loose, and even it did not flop all the way down and only the driver side. I expect it is directly related to the number of times the visor is pulled down, and in turn this is related to the overall mileage/usage.

My solution is to buy up any visors I see for sale when cars are breaking. Keep a few tight ones in stock.
