First winter w/ the SVX A++
Got the car this past February and had little time driver due to needing tons of work. Sitting for a year is never good lol.
Well i put hankook k106's on for the summer and decided snow tires would be something i couldn't afford. Well I tell you what, even with summer tires on it...... IT DID EXTREMELY WELL! Was following my GF's parts in the Silverado 1500. They ran into the last 150 feet of the road... IT WASNT PLOWED... And I saw them start to hit it and it would have been worse trying to stop (and getting stuck) than it would have been to maintain momentum and drive thru. Well I got to the last 10 feet of the road where the car just couldn't make it.... So i went to back up and that wasn't going to work.... So after rocking back and forth for about 10 minutes... I drove out the end of the road! Car had snow packed all over the front! I had to stop and clear it all out. I looked back as I drove away and I push a ton of snow out onto the road. This car is GREAT in the snow and a lot of FUN! I only have one question. . . How hard is the AWD engage supposed to be?

Re: First winter w/ the SVX A++
What do you mean the AWD engage? The 92's are full time AWD unless you stick in the FWD fuse.

Re: First winter w/ the SVX A++
Are you sure? Cause mine definately, has front wheel slip before the rear engages... I can feel it kick in. It also works better the more gas i give it.

Re: First winter w/ the SVX A++
Im not sure if its a 50/50 split, but I am sure that every SVX, through ever year (depending on trim level), is full time AWD. For some reason, 60/40 is stuck in my head, I dunno, lol.

Re: First winter w/ the SVX A++
I was under the impression it was 90/10 split and 50/50 at most. Im just saying mine seems to be only FWD unless they slip and I give it the gas lol

Re: First winter w/ the SVX A++
It is full-time AWD but is constantly variable (Meaning there are no "fixed" percentages front/rear).
But since it is FWD-biased, a 50/50 split is the most you will ever see transfered to the rear wheels. Remember also that the front diff is open, so when you have no traction up there, that's also where most of your power is going to be sent. The trick is to convince the car that the front wheels do infact have traction but you just need to "climb" over something. Alittle bit of pressure on the brakes while giving it throttle will tell the car that the front has traction but gives resistance enough to fully power the rears (giving you the 50/50 split). Any system with an open diff (be it FWD, RWD, or AWD); wheel spin is your enemy as the power will take the path of least resistance. Dustin

Re: First winter w/ the SVX A++
Supernatural,
I'm a bit confused. You said you were rocking the SVX forward and reverse. Then you asked about the AWD slamming hard. If you mean the tranny was slamming hard when you were rocking back and forth , it is probabaly a bad 'dropping resistor' which is located between the battery and fender. In cold weather the shifts slam hard when this resistor is shot. I had this problem a few years ago on my '92 SVX. This resistor makes the shifts very smoth., but you have to remove the battery to get at it. Also, when you get enough money put ultra-high or just high performance all- season tires on the SVX, such as Continental "Conti Extreme Contacts" (about $90 ea.). They will get you through most winters. Good Luck.

Re: First winter w/ the SVX A++
I agree with Larry III - the Continentals are a great tire all around. I know of 6 or more members in our area that have them and they all love them.

Earl,
Have you finally been driving in snow in Washington state? I heard Seattle got hit pretty hard.

Re: First winter w/ the SVX A++
Guess I shouldnt have said "rocking" per say.... I put it in R drove as far as I could, stopped, put it in D pushed some snow.... etc. I wasnt just throwing it in R then D mashing the gas lol Thats asking for trouble.
Even when im just driving along on a snowing road and i give it some gas the rear wheel kick in hard. Hard enough that if you didnt do it on purpose you would most likely send yourself around.
