Security question

Programmed my 94 pearl factory security system with a two button keyless ride remote. First of all only one button works to arm and disarm, the lock button, and secondly, it only locks the passenger door. I believe my drivers door lock is fine, because when I push it down by hand it locks both doors, and if I lock from the outside using the key, it also locks both doors. Any idea what it could be. I will try another remote first, and then the security module. Speaking of which, these are obsolete from subaru correct? Does one know what goes bad with these modules, and are they fixable.

Re: Security question

The OEM security module only recognizes a single button on the remote. The OEM remote only has one button. Push to change from unlocked/unarmed to locked/armed, and vice-versa.

The problem is not with your security module or remote.

When you lock via the key or the slider lever inside the door, you're locking that door mechanically. Inside the driver's door, a switch causes the passenger door actuator to lock the other door.

Sounds like the door lock actuator in your driver's door (or the wiring or a connector) is bad. Search for older posts — I think some people have fixed the problem by removing the interior door panel and cleaning the contacts. However, in some cases the actuator was fried and had to be replaced.

Re: Security question

Thanks, Ive figured that out. Will see if its the wiring or the actuator itself.

Post Re: Security question

This might/probably isn't related but it's good to keep in mind. I went for years not using the key to unlock my door, always used the remote. One day I locked it with what turned out to be the last mili-amp of juice in the car battery. Wouldn't unlock the doors, totally dead battery. Because I never used the key, the mechanism was all froze up and I couldn't turn the damn key. Took me hours to work it loose with WD-40. Ton of fun.

Merry Christmas to all, a safe holiday at home with loved ones and friends.
