hey

im really confused on the whole ratio thing. someone please clear it up.

how does a wrx tranny with a center diff of 1.1:1 that is meant for a 3.90 rear compatible with a 3.54 rear in the svx

and if i decide to use this 02-03 wrx tranny with the gears below installed

Ratios for gears:
STi RA ratios: 3.083 (1st), 2.062 (2nd), 1.545 (3rd), 1.151 (4th), 0.825 (5th)
Center Diff is a 1.1:1

how will that work with my 3.54 svx rear? cause from the online calculator i found its giving me 5th gear @ 3000 rpm is 73.3mph

someone help me out on this please

the 1.1 is multiplied by the 3.545 which gives you your 3.9 to match your front dif. You should be entering 3.9 for your gear ratio.

The diameter of our tires is 25, so the radius is 12.5, the actual radius under the weight of the car maybe 12 at most.

so at 3k rpms... about 66 mph

http://wahiduddin.net/calc/calc_speed_rpm.htm

Let's say you were in FL where the speed limit on the Interstate is 70 and under 75 you get a warning and you are just a bad bad person so you drive 74ish mph regularly...you'd be crusing down the highway at about 3400 rpms.

if you think your mounted tire under the weight of the car stands up to the same height it does unmounted that might be right.

Go look at the tires on your car...look at the height of the tire above the weel and look at the height of the tire below the wheel. I think 12" on the radius is being generous. No need to debate it though...go take a ruler outside and see how far it is from the ground to the center of your wheel....that's the radius to use in the calculation

24.858267716535433 is the actual radius of the tire i think

66mph @ 3000 rpm in 5th is good for me. The max posted speed limit here on the beltway is 55mph and i rarely get on I95 which its max posted speed in my state is 65mph

thanks for all your help guys,

You don't want the close ratio box... believe me, I have regretted having one in my car for a while now... The USDM ratios are the best IMHO. Like I said, a low mileage 04 or 05 will be plenty strong, cheaper, and have better final ratios

A PPG tranny would be ideal. Espically if you want to make power!
