The panel under the steering wheel

On the Blue SVX I just bought, the panel under the steering wheel is hanging loose on the side t'ward the center console. I cant seem to find what it is supposed to connect to.

There is a white tab on the side t'ward the console, but there does not seem to be anything for it to lock in to. And at the bottom there appears to be a screw hole, but where the screw would go into the car there is a notch in the metal and nothing for the screw to go in to. I'm wondering if I'm missing something.

I think I'm going to have to replace the panel anyway, It looks like someone got in a hurry to get the panel off and cracked the plastic on the door side around the parking light and mirror switch, they are just barely in there . If anyone has a good panel in the grey leatherett stuff let me know.

If anyone has a picture of the panel off the car, and a picture of the interior area where the panel goes, maybe I could figure out what
I'm missing that the panel anchors to.

On the bright side this appears to be the only major interior problem

Thanks

Chuck E.

It should have a bolt that goes behind the change holder on the right side of the column. The other bolt is behind the parking/heated mirror switches. Good luck.

I saw the bolt hole in the metal behind the change holder (I pulled the
change holder out) but there does not seem to be any part of the panel for
the bolt to go through, and I did not see a hole in the change holder. Unless
there is something broken off the panel I can't see where it would hold to the
bolt.

The change holder pops out for access to the bolt hole. If you pick up the panel to where it should be you'll find the bolt hole that lines up with the bracket.

I think that's want I am missing, the bracket that lines up with the bolt hole.
When I pop the change holder off, I see a bolt hole in the metal under the dash, but there seems to be no bracket, or part of the panel with a hole in it for the bolt to go through to hold it to the metal, maybe some part of the
panel that lines up with the hole is broken off.

That's possible. Try just taking the panel off and take a look at the back of it. The only thing holding it in is the switches and one bolt. The switches unplug and come out fairly easily.

That picture helps alot. I croped it and attached it to this message to
show which bracket I am missing.

Is this metal bracket screwed on to the cover, or glued on?

Thanks

And while I'm asking, what is the long slot in the panel under the
steering wheel, in this crop, and what is that hole with the metal
clip just to the right? I cant seem to find anthing behind that
hole/ Clip for a screw to anchor in to.

Thanks

The bracket is screwed on.

But some SVXes only have one bracket .

My 92 has two brackets as per the photo, my 94 has just one, and a panel I removed from a 92 UK model had only one.

The panels with one bracket are secured at the top by a moulded plastic tab that hooks in to a rectangular slot.

yes some have 2 while some have just one, The clips go in the oblong slots.while the clips bolt on with bracket. Ebay has one for sale but it is suede and not leather but you can swap the 2 around with some upholstery glue that is what i done with mind. because the leather was not to be found , hope all helps if not shout back and we will try to get it right for you.

Looking at your dash sitting in seat. right side it is right in the middle on the edge, left side just above where the hood release there is another one, both have metal clips on tabs to hook in to slots, the bottom where it is longgated there is a plastic push in holder for it that snaps in the dash.
