Sony PSP Owners

Hey you owners, I've noticed that movies are now coming in PSP format now. Does that mean you have to buy 2 copies to play in your DVD and in the PSP? Or can you convert the one from PSP to DVD or vice versa? It's pretty stupid that you'd have to buy two copies.

It's nothing to get mad over - I just don't buy UMD movies.

i dunno - i don't have a memory card big enough to try it. i've used it for a small video clip, and it works great. i'm guessing you'll need at least a 1G memstick? 2G's are kinda pricey still - i'm waiting for teh price to come down (and for HD TIVO, too. )

The UMD movies aren't that high quality, right? They're also more expensive too, right?

the Spiderman 2 UMD movie that comes with the PSP is pretty amazing as far as quality goes. i don't know how much they are, because i won't be buying them. i don't even "buy" DVD's.

i'm sure a UMD burner will be out at some point?

Spiderman 2 only shipped with the first million PSPs in the US. The machine no longer comes with it.

Decoded DVDs usually run between 3-4GB based on content...

But you would transcode them at a lower resolution to match the PSP's screen resolution, right? That's what I did with content that I wanted to watch on my PDA.

Also, decoded DVDs wil run from 3-8 or so GB. Dual-layer DVDs can hold more, and most DVDs available nowadays are dual-layer. The single-layer ones hold something like 4.3 GB.

i'm assuming the small screen means a smaller file size.

Using psp video 9 a movie is typically 300-400 mb. Pretty small actually.
