Did you not see where I said stock form with stock tires? Did I say they were beach cruisers? In purely stock form the SVX will have a better 0-60 time hands down than a 911. the 959 you speak of was one bad porsche which would handly beat any SVX in virtually any test. As for the SVX and deep stuff it'll handle 2 feet of powder just fine so long as your not jumping from SUV track to SUV track. There was a mag test of the SVX in 92 that compared it to the likes of the awd supercars and came to the conclusion that it was at that time the fastest car in 6 inches of snow. Wish I could remember what mag is was but it was one of those British mags. Someone had a link to it years ago which is where I read it. Haven't seen it since.

Now the article didn't say anything about best stopping in snow. Not sure what it came with originally but I'd suspect it was a Bridgestone. Every 80's and 90's Subie I ever saw had Bridgestone treads.

the formula is: speed out=(money in)^2

that forumula has some flaws i think it should look more like this

speed=money^(s*10)

where S is the number of seconds you want to shave off of your total 1/4 mile time

actually you're both mistaken.. the formula to calculate the amount of money needed to make an SVX attain a specific quarter mile or top speed is a little more complex.. it looks something like this:

speed=money^(s*10) * 4(wheelbearings) - miles on chassis - 2.5(miles on tranny) - 2(total number of "aftermarket" stickers on driver's door) / (vertical distance between spoiler and trunklid) + 10(love/obsession)

as you can see, ricer mods will actually DETRACT performance, while a healthy obsession will improve your 1/4 mile time..

Hehe - the svx may not be a dragster but it shouldn't lose to an unmodified econobox on the highway. I whipped an impala SS from 70 - 130 on monday on the highway (which was empty for all the naysayers) And it was multiple times - he was not happy to lose, especially with his gf in the passenger seat. The look of surprise and defeat on his face was so priceless. I know they are a big pig of a car with a relatively weak v8 but they are mostly driven by egomaniacs anyway so it's fun to spank them.

But - I still get surprised and defeated once in a while at the stoplights and drive home with my tail between my legs. Someday I'll put nitrous on this thing and end that. For now I'll enjoy it for what it is.

Unhappy Race

It was not really a race but I was at a red light and behind me there was a friend in his new VW Passat TDI (131 hp).

The light went green and I pushed the pedal to the metal and what did I notice in my rear view mirror.

My friend kept up with his Passat?!?

At about 70 mph the distance got bigger.

First I didn't believe my eyes, but then I did a ride with his Passat and I must say this car has damn good acceleration.

Altough there should be a difference between 131 hp and 230 hp!

HP to the wheels

Doesn't the SVX only get about 170 HP to the wheels?

a few people have dyno'ed their cars, the avf on a FWD dyno is around c~179 give or take a few. No mods seem to do anything. Im going to be using a pocket dyno that someone on nasioc has to test the 5spd, see just how parasitic the autobox is

Marty, they are very quick. My brother has one listed at 115, and it fairly shifts when you want it.

It is misleading to focus on the HP difference. Both the 115 and the 130 hp variants generate huge torque at low revs, equal to or possibly more than the SVX. When you conside it is torque that is required to move the metal, and the Passat is lighter than the SVX, then it is no surprise they can keep up.

They would start to lose out at speeds over 100, but you would not leave one for dead either. The price of progress.

So did I but my father in law bought one and under the hood is the same old 5.7 you find in any regular Caprice. I was talking to a GM guy and he said that they made a few variations of the SS some even had a 4.3L V8 and ofcourse others had the LT1, so you never really know what your up against.
