Thumbs up Met Ben at the Exxon

Ben, Pleasure meeting you. 260k miles on your SVX gives me hope that mine will still be going for a while. Thanks for turning me on to this site.

Welcome "Ding." You'll forgive me if I laugh every time I see your location.

I had called directory assistance in NY to find the number for the Dahlquist Corporation. Not being familiar with the city, I gave the operator the name of the company and the location. I pronounced "Happauge" with my best French pronunciation. She immediately corrected me in her dry, emotionless, New York (more Bronx, I think) vocal tones. She said, "It's Hop Hog." I said, "As in 'leaping pig.'" She began laughing hysterically. It's the first time I'd ever heard an operator (especially one from the Northeast) laugh out loud. She totally lightened up, after that, and we had a great conversation, while she looked for the number. It was one of the most entertaining directory assistance calls I'd ever made.

Welcome, and thanks for bringing back memories. Enjoy the network and all its quirks.

Correct. This was years ago (1985). We'd bought some monitors for my audio production studio and had blown a fuse. It was something like a 1/4 amp fuse, not easily found. Had to call their tech guy (who sounded like Tommy Chong, by the way) who sent me several for free. Nice company to deal with, at the time, and some damn nice speakers. Good call.

Cigar Johnny, I drive a '92 "Teal" green (My bio I discribed it as "green", my apologies). I live on Long Guyland, New Yawk. There is 155k miles showing on the odometer and I am the third owner the first was from the Buffalo area. It will be 4 years of ownership in July and I will go on record as saying this is and may be the BEST car I have ever own. Even though I just today had to have the exhaust repaired (no biggy, it is afterall 11 yrs. old)the clincher is I thought I would be smart and buy a catalytic converter because it was "rotted out" (Never trust big chain repair shops) well after determining there was NO rot on the converter (only on the pipes to it) the Exhaust specialist (Performance Custom Exhaust 631-586-2043). In fact the Platinum honeycomb looked as good as the brand new one. I took Frank"s advice and reinstalled the original. So.... any body need a Catalytic converter and attaching hardware? So this may be way more info than you bargained for but you asked.

Memories

<I had called directory assistance in NY to find the number for the Dahlquist Corporation>

I bought a set of Dahlquist DQ-10's in the mid-70's. I had them custom mirror-imaged by the dealer, and drove them with a Phase Linear 400 amp, using a Advent receiver as the preamp.
A Thorens 126 turntable with a Grace arm and a Entre high-output moving coil cartridge completed the system. I used various tape decks, mostly reel-to-reel with DBX. TEAC, Technics, Revox....
I even had a Nakamichi 700 once.

I have been fortunate to own two of the truly classic high performance speakers.....Acoustic Research AR-3A's and Dahlquist DQ-10's....both amazing designs in their day.

Ding,

Welcome to the SVX family. I hope your SVX gives you as much joy as ours do.

Now for the really, really important questions.

Are you a Met or Yankee fan?
Are you a Giant or Jet fan?

Hey everyone west of the Hudson; these are very important questions to New Yorkers.

PS: Randy, it's pronounced "BRONIX".

Well this has been the warmest welcome I have ever recieved from so many strangers! Thank you.
Aredudjay, you have ruined the way I think of my home town with that Hog thing, thank you very much!
LarryIII, To answer your questions; I really don't follow the baseball thing during the year however if it came down to it....Mets.
As far as football there is only one truely New York team.....The men from Buffalo not the boys from Jersey ( no offense to the Garden State).

As far as my SVX I hope to enjoy it for awhile even with the repairs I had to myself I really enjoy getting to know this car. I'm really glad this site is here for people who KNOW this car and not just the image thing that other car sites seem to entertain. Tahks for those responsable.

Sorry, Larry. I have correced my spelling mistakes. Bronx and Hysterically, lest I receive Nick's wrath and create another riff in our relationship -- is is that rift?

I'm sorry, Ding. You'll have to admit it's a funny story. Oh, and by the way, it's AreDUBjay, with a DUB, not a DUD! Although some may argue.
