I've never really bought into the oil industries "Every 3K" line, ever since I read my XT6 manual and it reccomended 5K. Honestly, it really depends on when I get the time to do it, since I usually have 3 to do. I shoot for between 3K-5K, but I never let them go over 5K. The SVX & VDC get Mobil 1 with a half quart of Marvel's thrown in, and the XT6 gets Valvoline Max Life with a full quart of Marvel's. and none really have much leakage issues, 'cept for the XT6 which isn't all that bad for the age.

I've never known nor heard of a auto manufacturer recommending routine oil changes at 3,000 miles. (Maybe early turbos?) As I recall, the book on my '68 Mustang was 6,000.

Three, four, or five thousand miles of routine driving isn't likely to adversely affect motor oil of any description in the crankcase of a properly-operating engine. But as it wears, and mechanical tolerances erode, more frequent changes seem sensible.

me neither! my 928 had a factory change interval of something like 10k or 15k! yeah right! i'd be TOOOO nervous doing that! what is the SVX's recommended change?

5k on Mobil1 seems sensible enough to me, and just happens to coincide with my average yearly mileage, so i change it once/year.

Oil

Hi Everyone, Since my SVX only gets driven on special occasions, like Reading, I change twice a year. I usually use a high milage oil in the 10/40 range. In my case we are talking about a thirteen year old car with near 100,000 miles. My Legacy (2000 GT Limited) I change every 3,000 miles. High mileage oil spring to fall, Mobil 1 0W40 in the winter. As I always say, You pays your money and you gets your thrills. Take care and don't forget to put in that drain plug. Don't ask how I know. BOBB

I change mine every 5,000 miles with Mobil 1, change filter every time, rotate tires every time and rebalance front wheels every time. I do it on the odometer change divisible by 5,000 so its easy to remember.

I travel 44 miles each day to work (25,000 / year)at decent commute speeds and oil appears clean at each change.

I change my oil whenever I replace the engine, unless it's low miles, then I reuse the oil from the old engine.
