You leaking oil from the side(s) of the motor onto the exhaust headers? Valve cover gaskets shot?
Valve cover gaskets were one the first things I had to change when I bought mine..

Re: Smoke from engine compartment. Please help.

That's what it seems to be but I can't tell for sure as I'm not a mechanic. So I'm unsure. It's leaking oil pretty good tho. Also, when I pulled into work as I parked the car it stalled. Wonderful.

I read your story, I understand completely, I got lucky and my svx was in good condition, the trans did have some problems/issues which I did not get sorted out in time and eventually it did fail, but I got 5 years out of it and had always planned on manual swapping, the rest of the car I put money into upgrades not too much into maintenance, though now I really need to do some lol

Very nice! I eventually want to get some minor upgrades, but there's something nice about leaving cars like these mostly stock in my opinion. First it needs mechanical repairs, then it needs the body damage repaired. Which again, I may opt to do with my dad. I'll post a pic of the big gash in its side. It was hit by a snow truck I assume.
We sanded out the rust. And spraypainted over the open metal to prevent more rust. It look horrible. This doesn't look great, but it's much better than before. I'm going to eventually rent the tools necessary to redo the sides. Anyone have any objections to using Lucas oil stop Leak to help with my gasket leak issues. Not as a permanent fix but something to buy me some time.

Re: Smoke from engine compartment. Please help.

Is it normal that the whole car vibrates when it's in drive or reverse? The only other car I've seen do this is my girlfriends old geo prism that had over 200k on it haha

Re: Smoke from engine compartment. Please help.

no not normal, is it while driving or just putting it into gear causes it?

could be motor mounts or transmission mount is worn out

Re: Smoke from engine compartment. Please help.

It's when the car is stationary. When I put it in neutral or park it's soft. But when placed in gear (drive or reverse) it vibrates and then smooths out when I accelerate and start driving. It's not the acting of placing it in gear like my other car that lurches when I shift to drive or reverse. It's when the car Is in gear and sitting there, it's vibrating.
